William King Museum Abingdon, VA The Cultural Heritage Project, a program of William King Museum, documents, preserves, and interprets the decorative arts and material culture history of Southwest Virginia and Northeast Tennessee. The heritage Products are representative of more than 2000 documented objects everything from furniture, to textiles, woodworking, metalsmithing, pottery, and baskets.

Gathering and Sowing Basket This reproduction closely resembles that of the 1900’s utilities basket from Dickenson County VA The acorn shape was used because one could easily cradle it in one arm and use the other hand to gather nuts. This was handcrafted by Carla Mckinney of Washington County, VA. She has been making baskets for 20 years. Heritage Product Price: $35.00 4 in stock

Feather Basket This historic basket is similar to those made in the 1990’s for storage. But on a smaller scale. Most likely used to hold goose feathers for a mattress. Eagle Carved Doll bed This is based on a late 19 th -century bed made by Hiram K. Starnes of the Starnes Bluff area of Scott County, VA. The headboard features an eagle carving flanked by starbursts. Wreath of Roses Pillow The quilted pillow was based on a quilt made by Sarah Henderson Russell Evans in 1870, she made it for her family and descendants still treasure it today.
