Quotes from literature reviewed 'All community members, instructional designers, faculty members, and other support staff need to collaborate and contribute their expertise to plan, design, and implement effective online environments (Bennet, Priest, & Macpherson, 1999; Oliver, 1998; Torrisi-Steele, & Davis, 2000). 'All According to Jiyu You's study, promoting best practices of distance learning course design and delivery has become an important task for instructional designers in higher education. (You, 2010). Slide 7: 7 Why is instructional design essential in distance learning media? Quote from the California Distance Learning Project—For Adult Educators' web site (CDLP), "Distance Learning (DL) is an instructional delivery system that connects learners with educational resources. DL provides educational access to learners not enrolled in educational institutions and can augment the learning opportunities of current students. The implementation of DL is a process that uses available resources and will evolve to incorporate emerging technologies." Quotes from literature reviewed Slide 8: 8 Quotes from literature reviewed Why is instructional design essential in distance learning media? Don Clark quoted in his web site that “Instructional design mainly focus on analysis and design, thus they normally go into much more detail, especially in the design portion.” From Don Clark’s perspective, instructional design models are normally employed in conjunction with instructional system design (ISD) models, which have a broad scope and have five phases (Van Merriënboer, 1997, pp 2-3) Also, refer to previous diagram. Slide 9: 9 Diagram from Literature Reviewed Define Instructional Design Constructed by Van Merriënboer, 1997, pp 2-3. Slide 10: 10 Define Instructional Design Pointed out by Clark, there are three types of strategies within Instruction Design theories (Reigeluth, 1983): Organizational strategies are broken down on the micro or macro level and deals with the way in which a lesson is arranged and sequenced. Delivery strategies are concerned with the decisions that affect the way in which information is carried to the student, particularly, the selection of instructional media. Management strategies involve the decisions that help the learner interact with the activities designed for learning. Slide 11: 11 Design Model Design model follow A.D.D.I.E. ― Analyze ― Design ― Develop ― Implement ― Evaluate Systematic Integrative process Non-linearly Manner = Blended as a whole Slide 12: 12 Best Practices User-friendly navigation system and usability Use of colors Creative design Blended learning environments Functional, efficient and attractive A well-designed distance learning course can "help learners understand difficult concepts and lessen anxiety" (Shank, 2007). Slide 13: 13 Best Practices Know your audience Table 2.1 Know Your Generations, provided by author, Robin Neidorb. Slide 14: 14 Conclusion Overall the research shows that the design portion can play a crucial part in the success and wellness of distance learning courses There is not a design model that has a one-channel style or approach, it is best perform in a non-linear manner and be prepared for new advancements in technology Always be prepared for new advancements in technology Acknowledgments : 15 Acknowledgments Dr. Terry Herman, Professor of CTE6010 Classmates — Thoughts and Reviews Jonathan Feinberg — Creator of Wordle Music — Amanda by Aisha Duo References : 16 References Clark, Donald R.
