In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products? :

In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

Introduction :

Introduction We have experience from looking at real media products and this is evident from the textual analysis’ we completed in the first phase of our planning. This was in order to identify and gain inspiration of real codes and conventions from the genre we were interested in for creating a music video. We explored the rock genre and from the four textual analysis’ we completed we could clearly see the codes and conventions of real produced rock videos. We took inspiration from these and noted what we liked and to see if we could incorporate similar attitudes, shots and lighting techniques into ours following the codes and conventions we had discovered. There are also codes and conventions we found but challenged them by creating them differently with a slightly different meaning.

Slide 3:

We have also gained experience from the synoptic analysis’ we have looked at and from following the rock genre we worked out what we needed to create and how we could challenge ideas to incorporate our own uniqueness into the creation. We also noticed that theme is important in the rock genre and we have followed our own theme in our ancillary texts and in our production, and this is the colour red and its representation of love.

Developing our media product to compare to real media products :

Developing our media product to compare to real media products We used close up shots quite a lot, and we made these significant when we edited what we had filmed by developing them by making them longer shots, so they lingered more, creating emotion in the audience. Our production

Conclusion of Music Videos :

Conclusion of Music Videos These slides show how we have used, developed and challenged codes and conventions we found from real media music videos into our own production. We have been inspired from the rock genre and to construct our own production we have used many codes and conventions from research we conducted. These are a few examples to conclude: close ups to give more detail and provoke emotion in the audience and engage and involve them into our production. We have used the idea of reflections and photographs into our own production, while developing the photographs scenes. We have challenged certain conventions of the rock genre too, for example, with the use of colour, we have changed the meaning to desaturated shots and vibrant colour shots in order to put a twist on the normal set of codes of the rock genre.

Ancillary Texts :

Ancillary Texts These are the three CD front cover’s we did synoptic analysis’s of to gain an idea of the codes and conventions associated with this genre, in addition to the area on the blog entitiled “inspiration for ancillary texts”.
