What is so funny? And what is not!

Humor:

Humor Is To laugh with someone To enjoy the joke together Is not To laugh at someone To mock someone When the other person can’t laugh with me, the joke is no longer funny

Differentiate:

Differentiate Disagreeing To have a difference of opinion or understanding Insulting To castigate, denigrate, demean, mock One indicates respect The other indicates hatred

Cross cultural understanding:

Cross cultural understanding Comes from Respecting others’ differences Understanding those differences Not from Mocking differences Saying, ‘Why can’t they be like us?’ Understanding does not mean to agree Understanding means to accept their right to differ

The purpose of humor is:

The purpose of humor is To build relationships To spread goodwill To enhance understanding & mutual respect Not to break relationships Not to increase ill will Not t o reinforce stereotypes, prejudice, suspicion and hatred Humor must be tested on this criterion
