3 WIND POWER Conversion of Wind energy into a useful form of energy. Wind Energy is an indirect form of solar energy which can be used continuously unlike solar energy. When wind strikes an object, it exerts a force in an attempt to move it out of the way.

Energy crisis in Pakistan:

Wind and Solar energies are the possible clean and low cost renewable resources available in our country. The potential, for the use of alternative technologies, has never been fully explored in Pakistan. Wind power provides opportunity to reduce dependence on imported fossil fuel . 4 Energy crisis in Pakistan

WIND ENERGY POTENTIAL IN PAKISTAN :- Pakistan is gifted with immense wind resource Jhimpir power plant is the first wind project in Pakistan Wind power plant in Jhimpir, Gharo and Bin Qasim in Sindh Major wind resources areas: South E astern Pakistan, Elevated mountains and Northern Pakistan.

As the sun hits the earth, much of its energy is absorbed by the atmosphere, more is absorbed by the warm air near the equator, and less towards the poles, these variations in pressure and temperature create movement, currents that flow around the planet. Wind Fluctuations

Total wind power:

Total wind power The total wind power is equal to the incoming kinetic energy of the wind stream. P = ½ ρ A V ᶟ . Where, P is power. ρ is air density. A is swept area of blades given by A = πr² where r is the radius of the blades. V is the velocity of the wind .

REQUIRED WIND SPEED FOR GENERATION OF POWER:

Generally , annual average wind speeds greater than four meters per second (m/s) (9 mph) are required for small wind electric turbines (less wind is required for water-pumping operations). Utility-scale wind power plants require minimum average wind speeds of 6 m/s (13 mph). REQUIRED WIND SPEED FOR GENERATION OF POWER

Average of wind speed of RAHIM YAR KHAN:

The average daily wind speed in RYK has been around 9 km/h, that’s the equivalent to about 6 mph, or 5 knots. In recent years the maximum sustained wind speed has reached 93 km/h, that’s the equivalent of around 58 mph, or 50 knots. Average of wind speed of RAHIM YAR KHAN

There is small wind mills in Cholistan by UAE Government for the purpose of water pumping in desert. Water level in desert is deep due to this there is small wind mills which are very useful for pumping of water. HOPE:

There is hope present in RYK for power generating wind mill. Required wind speed also available. Need of power due to energy crises in Pakistan. Cholistan desert (no worry about land problem). HOPE

Objectives….:

We will collect the data of wind speed and direction for any year from PMDC and PCRWR department. Compare the data with other countries. Check the feasibility of wind power RYK. Suggestion to authorities for making wind mill in this district . Objectives….

CONCLUSION :- For the sake of national security, rural economic revitalization, and resource preservation we must promote a renewable energy economy. Wind power can be a cornerstone of that sustainable energy future because it is affordable, provides jobs, substantial and distributed revenue, and treads lightly on our environment without causing pollution, generating hazardous wastes, or depleting natural resources. Embracing wind energy today will lay the foundation for a healthy tomorrow.
