Slide 3: When I take exams I know that I know how to do the problems. I just can not figure out where to start. What do I do? The Answer Is… : The Answer Is… Flash Cards Slide 5: Search for a correct example on starting the problem. You can search your book or the internet. Ask someone if you can not find it. This could be a teacher, friend, or classmate. Search and Ask! Slide 6: If you have them, use questions from the practice tests because they will be like the questions on the real one. Use examples from each section and questions from the chapter review. Grab some questions from online homework. Other places to look Slide 7: Start by looking over your practice test and finding problems where you do not know how to start or keep starting them wrong. I definitely keep messing this one up Find It! Slide 8: Next, write the problem on one side of the flash card Write It! Slide 9: Flip It! Plug in 5 for all x values. Side 1 Side 2 Remember that this is not the solution but only the way to start the problem. Once you have found the correct way to start the problem, flip over your flash card and write it. Slide 10: Example 1 Side 1 Side 2 Slide 11: Example 2 Side 1 Side 2 Slide 12: Example 3 Side 1 Side 2 Slide 13: Example 4 Side 1 Side 2 Slide 14: Example 5 Side 1 Side 2 Slide 15: Example 6 Side 1 Side 2 Slide 16: Example 7 Side 1 Side 2 Slide 17: Take the derivative of both sides Side 1 Side 2 Remember that this is not the solution but only the way to start the problem. Use implicit differentiation to find dy/dx. Example 8 Slide 18: When you have made all the flash cards needed it’s time to study. Study Study Study! Slide 19: Look at the problem on each flash card and try to remember how to start the problem. Create a game where you have teams and take turns trying problems and add up the number of the correct answers and the team with the most points wins!
