this is a great presentation, I would like to be able to down load this and use it as a reference of a paper I am doing for a class. Would it be ok to do this?

BIOLOGY: :

BIOLOGY: Foundations of Biology

The Eight Major Biology Themes: :

The Eight Major Biology Themes: 1. Natural Selection 2. Science as a Process 3. Energy Transfer 4. Continuity and Change 5. Relationship of Structure to Function 6. Regulation 7. Interdependence in Nature 8. Science, Technology, and Society

Scientific Theory :

Scientific Theory Theories are concepts that join together well-supported and related hypotheses. Basic theories of biology include: Cell Biogenesis Gene Evolution/natural selection

Scientific Methods :

Scientific Methods A scientist becomes interested in a something because of research and/or observations. This often leads to a question "Why did it do that"?, Or, "what made that happen"?

Scientific Methods :

A scientist then formulates a tentative statement called a hypothesis to guide their observations and experiment, which produce new data. Scientific Methods The hypothesis should be stated as an if/then statement

Scientific Methods :

Scientific Methods 3. A scientist uses observation and/or experimentation to test the hypothesis.

Scientific Methods :

Scientific Methods 4. The data that is obtained help the scientist come to a conclusion that either supports or does not support the hypothesis. A hypothesis is never proven true; however it can be proven false.

Scientific Methods :

Scientific Methods 5. Results are reported in a scientific journal. Other researchers must be able to repeat the work and get the same results.

How is life defined? :

How is life defined? Life is defined by 7 characteristics Organization Acquiring energy Homeostasis Responsiveness Reproduction Growth Adaptation

1. Living things are highly organized. :

1. Living things are highly organized. Each level has emergent properties that are due to interaction between parts.

2. Living things acquire nutrient materials and energy. :

2. Living things acquire nutrient materials and energy.

3. Living things maintain homeostasis. :

3. Living things maintain homeostasis. Many organisms use behavior to regulate their internal environment. What is the behavior that helps the Jackrabbit stay cool in this photo?

4. Living things respond to their environment. :

4. Living things respond to their environment. Behavior - Organisms move toward or away from a stimulus such as light to ensure survival. How is the dragonfly responding to its environment? How is the Venus Flytrap?

5. Living Things Grow :

5. Living Things Grow Organisms grow in size by increasing the amount of living substance in the organism.

6. Living things reproduce :

6. Living things reproduce Instructions for offspring are encoded in an organisms genes.

7. Living things have adaptations through natural selection. :

7. Living things have adaptations through natural selection. Adaptations are modifications that make an organism suited to its way of life. How is this bird adapted to survive in this photo?
