Electronic Evidence 3: Teacher Work Sample – Planning (TWSP):

Electronic Evidence 3: Teacher Work Sample – Planning (TWSP) Developed in Intern I to match the students you are teaching Submitted in TaskStream (remember that tool?) The TWS Planning required components are : Description of the context, Unit Goals and “Big Ideas”, Rationale for teaching, Unit assessment plan Differentiated unit overview table, and Lesson plans

Description of Context [EDEL 311]:

Description of Context [EDEL 311] This section is a description of the students, the school, and other relevant factors. While some specific data about the students are required, the description of context should go beyond the minimum requirements . The context must include the following about the classroom: Number of students Grade level of students Other student characteristics of class (e.g., male/female; race/ethnicity; free/reduced lunch; IEPs; gifted/honors; ELL) Time available daily to teach Other conditions that affect the learning environment such as space and materials, provide details (e.g. computer technology – SMARTBoards; open-classroom format; heating/cooling)

Description of Context [EDEL 311]:

Description of Context [EDEL 311] The context may also include information about the larger school and community. Name of school Grades in school Number of teachers Number of students in school System and/or County Number of students in system County/town/community population Per capita income Unemployment Largest employer Average highest education of population

Unit Goals [EDEL 311] “Big Idea” and Enduring Understandings:

Unit Goals [EDEL 311] “Big Idea” and Enduring Understandings What do you want your students to know and do related to your topic? Goals beyond or in addition to the NCSCoS should be identified, if appropriate. The NC Standard Course of Study competency goals addressed by the teaching unit should also be included and identified by number and description.

Rationale [EDEL 311]:

Rationale [EDEL 311] In narrative format and in no more than 250 words, explain why the unit was selected and how it is important to the learners being taught Knowledge, skills, and dispositions selected must be relevant to learners in the 21st century and must go beyond discrete and isolated content and skills.

Unit Assessment Plan [EDEL 311]:

Unit Assessment Plan [EDEL 311] The unit must have a specific, detailed plan for assessment: ( 1) at the beginning, (2) during the unit (formative), and (3) at the end to guide lesson planning and to evaluate the impact of the unit on student learning. Assessments are intended to specifically measure the goals and objectives of the unit. “The assessments must be developed by the teacher candidate intended to specifically measure the goals of the unit . The assessments must be measurable” and individual for each student. The unit goals must be assessed at the beginning of the unit, at least once during the unit, and at the end of the unit.

Differentiated Unit Overview [EDEL 311]:

Differentiated Unit Overview [EDEL 311] The unit overview offers a summary of how the unit fits together Teacher candidates should prepare a matrix that shows how activities and assessments relate to goals and objectives and include differentiation strategies It is suggested that you use the template provided (see Blackboard Assignment area)

Unit Overview Template Sections [EDEL 311] :

Unit Overview Template Sections [EDEL 311] Unit Topic Duration Learning Outcome/Objective : What will students be able to do in measurable terms at end of lesson? Lesson Outline: Specific topic of lesson and/or brief description of key activities in lesson Assessment: How will you measure that the objective has been met? Method of Differentiation : How will the lesson be modified or enhanced to accommodate all learners?

Electronic Evidence 5: TWS Implementation & Evaluation (TWSIE):

Electronic Evidence 5: TWS Implementation & Evaluation (TWSIE) Done in Intern II/Student Teaching and Uploaded to Taskstream “Teacher Work Sample: Implementation and Evaluation (TWSIE) requires candidates to use a variety of assessment tools, both formative and summative, and [report] resulting data to evaluate the progress of their learners in a unit of instruction.” This unit is aligned with the NCSCOS and is appropriate for the individual needs of all of the learners. The resulting data should provide evidence that learners attain 21st century knowledge, skills and dispositions. In addition, the TWSIE is designed for the teacher candidate to reflect on ideas about what can be done to improve both teaching and learning.
