Land Pollution:

Land Pollution The degradation of the Earth's land surface as shown in the image .

Pictorial Representation of factors affecting Land Pollution.:

Pictorial Representation of factors affecting Land Pollution .

How exactly “we” pollute the land??:

How exactly “we” pollute the land?? 1. By poor agricultural practices E.g. – Excessive use of Pesticides and Fertilizers.

2. By mineral exploitation:

2. By mineral exploitation

3. By indiscriminate disposal of urban wastes . :

3. By indiscriminate disposal of urban wastes .

4. By improper disposal of e-waste :

4 . By improper disposal of e-waste

Soil Pollution :

Soil Pollution The presence of chemicals or other alteration in the natural soil environment Results in a change of the soil quality affects the normal use of the soil endangering public health and the living environment.

Causes Of Soil Pollution:

Causes Of Soil Pollution Excessive farming, construction, overgrazing, burning of grass cover and deforestation Excess salts and water ( Salinization ) Excessive use of fertilizers & pesticides Solid waste :

How to Control Soil Pollution:

How to Control Soil Pollution Use of pesticides and fertilizers should be minimized. Cropping techniques should be improved to prevent growth of weeds. Special pits should be selected for dumping wastes. Controlled grazing and forest management. Wind breaks and wind shield in areas exposed to wind erosion Afforestation and reforestation. 3 Rs: reduce, reuse, recycle 10

Reduce:

Reduce By reduce we mean reduction of usage of sources of production of these solid wastes that cause land pollution.

Reuse:

Reuse Reusing products will lessen the need to manufacture items, which will save energy by itself. The image depicts its importance

Recycle:

Recycle Recycling uses less energy than manufacturing new products. Recycling a Metal-Can

Types of Hazardous Solid Waste:

Types of Hazardous Solid Waste Reactive waste Corrosive Waste Ignitable waste Toxic waste Radioactive waste Medical waste

1.Reactive Waste:

1.Reactive Waste Reactive wastes are chemically unstable and react violently with air or water.

2. Corrosive Waste :

2. Corrosive Waste Corrosive wastes include strong acidic or alkaline substances. They destroy solid material and living tissue upon contact, by chemical reaction.

3. Ignitable Waste:

3. Ignitable Waste Ignitable wastes burn at relatively low temperatures and may cause an immediate fire hazard.

4.Toxic Waste:

4.Toxic Waste Toxic waste is waste material can cause death, injury or birth Defects to living creatures . Valley of drums in USA, where Drums of toxic waste is brought to Be disposed off

5.Radioactive Waste :

5.Radioactive Waste Radioactive wastes are wastes that contain radioactive material Radioactive waste stored in drums in U.S .

6. Medical Waste:

6. Medical Waste Medical waste is waste products that cannot be considered general waste, produced from healthcare premises, such as hospitals, clinics, doctors offices, veterinary hospitals and labs.

Where do we dispose all the Solid waste?:

Where do we dispose all the Solid waste? Landfills are a popular way to dispose of the waste, but aren’t very practical Now, they are leaning towards sanitary landfills, but they can also be quite deceiving. Garbage Incinerators are also an effective way of disposing off the waste than cant be Reused, Reduced or Recycled.

Landfill:

Landfill Landfill: A site where wastes are disposed of by burial. (in Image) Sanitary landfill: A landfill where wastes are spread in layers and compacted by bulldozers .

Incinerator:

An incinerator is a furnace for burning waste. Incinerator

How can we contribute in Reducing Land Pollution ?:

How can we contribute in Reducing Land Pollution ? As a country we can also build more incinerators. While these machines are highly expensive, they are completely worth it. We can ensure that we keep inorganic and organic waste separately so that proper disposal can be done. We should stick to the 3R’s-Reduce, Reuse, Recycle. Industries should treat the solid waste properly and dispose off in proper place.
