The Role of Communication : The Role of Communication Employees at all levels spend the majority of their workday communicating. The major skill upon which employees must depend is communication. Unless employees can effectively communicate to fellow employees, supervisors and the boss, they are doomed to failure as effective managers. Communication Fact : Communication Fact Whatever the media used, most individuals spend 70 to 90 percent of their waking hours in the act of communicating. Only too often, People do not say exactly what they mean AND People do not mean exactly what they say The Power of an Idea Depends upon two things: : The Power of an Idea Depends upon two things: The swiftness and clarity with which it is received The ease with which it is recalled 4 Common Methods of Communicating : 4 Common Methods of Communicating Written Communication: includes letters, faxes, and memos. Some individuals feel that communicating in this manner ensures that the intended message will come across – everyone will read the same words; therefore everyone will get the same message. Telecommunication: includes telephones, intercoms and other voice communications. Not only does the message have the meaning the sender intended, it is subject to a second meaning– that of the person acting as the communication channel.
