Hudson Taylor when founding the China Inland Mission faced opposition from the established churches. He determined to trust God alone through prayer, and without asking for his needs, so as to defuse the criticisms of a mission of amateurs. This isbased on Matt 6:33. “If you seek first his Kingdom and his righteousness, all these things will be added to you.”Effectiveness, Living by Faith and capitalizing missions: Effectiveness, Living by Faith and capitalizing missions The teaching in the scriptures is that: “A hardworking farmer ought to have the first share of the crop.” (II Tim 2:6). This means you first plant at your own expense, and later people will respond with giving. “the laborer is worthy of double honor, especially those who labor in teaching and preaching.” (1 Tim 5:17). i.e. those proven in leadership are worthy to be supported. Thus after the first two years on the field, it is important to built your respect with your home base churches. Yet in missions, in order to capitalize, we often have to follow the apostle Paul, who “worked day and night, laboring and toiling, in order that we might not become a burden to you.” (2 Thes 3:8).“Living by Faith” and using means: “Living by Faith” and using means Along with God’s activity is human means People need to know you are “living by faith” People need to know how to give, address, account, designation There is a subtle temptation to advertise needs. These need to be simply stated, but people left with choice as to what they give to. Overseas mission requires people to commit for 3-4 years or longer.American pragmatism and “Faith-based organizations”: American pragmatism and “Faith-based organizations” It is difficult for Americans to grasp trusting God without marketing in a culture that determines your success based on effectiveness of your marketing. There is a culture of fundraising. People get confused between those who are fundraising for the latest short term junket overseas “to do missions” and those looking for long term support. Faith-based organization does not mean living by faith, simply there is a belief system behind the organization. THE CEO is reponsible to raise the money to support the workers.Contrast of Fundraiaing NGO’s and Organizations where people “Live by Faith”: Contrast of Fundraiaing NGO’s and Organizations where people “Live by Faith” NGO’s are dependent on the CEO’s capacity to raise money. This is a bottleneck, and the programs are determined by the major donors. Missions organizations that live by faith are dependent on workers raising their funds according to their faith. This can continue to multiply. 1. Sees the Invisible (11:1) 2. Believes the Incredible (11,3,6,7) 3. Attempts the Impossible (11:7,10,11) : Faith 1. Sees the Invisible (11:1) 2.
