Viswanadham Slide 2: 10 December 2009 2 Abraham Lincoln supposedly wrote a letter to his son’s teacher. Lincoln’s authorship of the letter has been refuted. However let us reflect on the wonderful advice in the letter. Slide 3: 10 December 2009 3 He will have to learn, I know, that all men are not just, all men are not true. Slide 4: 10 December 2009 4 But teach him also that for every scoundrel there is a hero; that for every selfish politician, there is a dedicated leader… Teach him for every enemy there is a friend, Slide 5: 10 December 2009 5 Steer him away from envy, if you can, teach him the secret of quiet laughter. Slide 6: 10 December 2009 6 Let him learn early that the bullies are the easiest to lick… Teach him, if you can, the wonder of books… Slide 7: 10 December 2009 7 But also give him quiet time to ponder the eternal mystery of birds in the sky, bees in the sun, and the flowers on a green hillside.
