Vertical Thinking Vs Creative Thinking:

Vertical Thinking Vs Creative Thinking

Creative Thinking :

Creative Thinking Creative Problem solving requires an ability to over come traditional thinking and transcends conventional thinking about them. “Why not find a way to allow customers to deposit and withdraw money automatically? This lead to ATMs”

Creative Thinking:

Creative Thinking Many people suffer from FUNCTIONAL FIXEDNESS, in the sense that they think of only one (or a fixed) function for an object, such as using a frying pan only for cooking.

Creative Thinking:

Creative Thinking A creative person thinks outside the box People who are not creative suffer from “hardening of categories” – only men can climb electric poles To be creative one must develop new paradigms Creativity requires overcoming traditional mental sets.

Creative Thinking:

Creative Thinking Creative people overcome traditional wisdom Creative people engage in “lateral” thinking in addition to “vertical” thinking.

Types of Brainstorming:

Types of Brainstorming 6-3-5 technique Six people spend 5 minutes to write 3 ideas and rotate it to each other and repeat the same exercise in adding to the idea.

Types of Brainstorming:

Types of Brainstorming Visual Technique Combines Ideas generation and drawing. This translates the thoughts to visual creation.

Types of Brainstorming:

Types of Brainstorming Pet Peeve Technique This is a method in which a group identifies all the possible complaints others might have about the groups organizational unit including customers, outside customers, vendors, suppliers, competitors

Types of Brainstorming:

Types of Brainstorming Forced – Association Technique In this method individuals or groups solve a problem by making associations between the properties of two objects. An individual (working in a group) selects a word at random from a dictionary. Next , the person (or group) lists all the properties and attributes of this word.

Types of Brainstorming:

Types of Brainstorming Equipping a kitchen for the mind technique Every business needs a kitchen for the mind, a space designed to nurture creativity. The supplies can be ordinary items such as chalkboard, computer, tea pots, refrigerator, toys, dart guns etc…

Procedure:

Procedure In a small or large group select a leader and a recorder (they may be the same person). Define the problem or idea to be brainstormed. Make sure everyone is clear on the topic being explored.

Procedure:

Procedure Set up the rules for the session. They should include letting the leader have control. allowing everyone to contribute. ensuring that no one will insult, demean, or evaluate another participant or his/her response. stating that no answer is wrong. recording each answer unless it is a repeat. setting a time limit and stopping when that time is up.

Procedure:

Procedure Start the brainstorming. Have the leader select members of the group to share their answers. The recorder should write down all responses, if possible so everyone can see them. Make sure not to evaluate or criticize any answers until done brainstorming.

Procedure:

Procedure Once you have finished brainstorming, go through the results and begin evaluating the responses. Some initial qualities to look for when examining the responses include looking for any answers that are repeated or similar. grouping like concepts together. eliminating responses that definitely do not fit. Now that you have narrowed your list down some, discuss the remaining responses as a group.
