ARTICLES : 

ARTICLES When you have a single, countable English noun, you must always have an article before it. There are two types of articles. Indefinite 'a' and ‘an’. Definite 'the'.

Indefinite articles – a and an. Refer to something that is not specifically known to the person you are communicating with. E.g.- I ate a banana for lunch. Used before nouns that introduce something or someone you have not mentioned before. E.g.- I saw an elephant this morning. A and an are also used when talking about your profession . E.g.- I am a teacher. I am an engineer. Definite Article - the . ‘The’ is used to talk about something which is known. Also used when you have already mentioned the thing you are talking. The first time you speak of something use "a or an", the next time you repeat that object use "the". E.g.-I live in a house. The house is quite old and has four bedrooms.

Where not to use … : 

Where not to use … Don’t use ‘the’ while talking about sports. For example - My son plays football. Never use before the names of countries except where they indicate multiple areas or contain the words (state(s), kingdom, republic, union). No article with - Italy, Mexico, Bolivia, England Except –the UK ,t he US Names of academic subjects: mathematics, biology, history, computer science Don’t use ‘the’ with God. I believe in God. Don’t use it before city, language, festival. Before lunch, dinner etc. never use ‘the’.
