GEOTHERMAL POWER :

GEOTHERMAL POWER Prepared by: Ms. VIHAR VAGHELA Ms. MURTUZA KACHIBARODA Guided by: Prof. RUSHES.P.MEHATA

Slide 2:

ANSWER IS:---- WHY WE CHOOSE THIS TOPIC..?

Slide 3:

As a ELECTRICAL engineer, OUR DUTY IS TO FULLFILL THE ENERGY DEMAND OF THE CONSUMERS AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE… THE PRIMARY SOURCE FOR GENERATING THE POWER ARE COAL , PETROL , & DIESEL … And the stock of this sources are limited… MEANS THEY ARE NON-RENEWABLE SOURCE…

SOLUTION :

SOLUTION WE MUST BE NEED TO USE THE RENEWABLE SOURCE OF ENERGY… EX: WIND ENERGY WATER ENERGY SUN ENERGY BIOMASS EARTH ENERGY & GEO-THERMAL ENERGY

GEOTHERMAL ENERGY&POWER:

GEOTHERMAL ENERGY&POWER “ GEO “means EARTH “ THERMAL “means HEAT …..SO Geothermal energy is natural heat of the earth

Geothermal Energy :

Geothermal Energy Uses heat generated by the earth’s interior.

Sources of Earth’s Internal Energy:

Sources of Earth’s Internal Energy 70% comes from the decay of radioactive nuclei with long half lives that are embedded within the Earth Some energy is from residual heat left over from Earths formation. The rest of the energy comes from meteorite impacts

Source of Geothermal Energy:

Slide 9:

Energy Under Our Feet 47% of Solar Energy is Absorbed By the Ground 19% Absorbed by Water Vapor & Dust 4% Absorbed By Clouds 17% Reflected By Clouds 6% Absorbed By Surface

Slide 10:

Hot Springs

Slide 11:

USES:

USES Direct use and district heating systems Electricity generation power plants Geothermal heat pumps

Direct uses of geothermal energy is appropriate for sources below 1500C:

Direct uses of geothermal energy is appropriate for sources below 150 0 C space heating air conditioning industrial processes drying Greenhouses Agricultures hot water resorts and pools melting snow

Capturing “Geothermal” Energy The 1st System:

Capturing “Geothermal” Energy The 1 st System In 1904 1 st demonstration. Emerging steam powered a turbine to light 5 light bulbs World’s 1 st Geothermal Power Station. 1911 in Tuscany, Italy By 1913 a 250 kW power station had been built and was used to power the Italian electric railway system. Today world production is 5 TWh, or 10%

Basics Of Geothermal power plants:

Basics Of Geothermal power plants

HOW HAVE PEOPLE USED GEOTHERMAL ENERGY IN THE PAST?:

HOW HAVE PEOPLE USED GEOTHERMAL ENERGY IN THE PAST? Bathing: Ancient civilizations used hot springs for bathing Medical Therapy: Early Romans used geothermal water to treat eye and skin disease Cooking: Native Americans and others used geothermal water for cooking Heating: Early Romans used geothermal water to heat their homes in Pompeii.

HOW DO WE USE GEOTHERMAL ENERGY TODAY?:

HOW DO WE USE GEOTHERMAL ENERGY TODAY? Space Heating/Cooling Water Heating / Spas Aquaculture : Fish, Shrimp, Abalone, Alligators Drying of fruits / vegetables / humbler Industrial Uses : Dying of cloth, washing wool, piping under sidewalks to keep from freezing, manufacturing paper Greenhouses : Vegetables, flowers and other crops Electricity Generation

GEOTHERMAL PLANT LOCATION:

GEOTHERMAL PLANT LOCATION Australia China France Iceland Indonesia Italy Japan Kenya Russia Mexico New Zealand Portugal Turkey USA(Biggest owner)& more… TOTAL ENERGY=15,419 MW IN INDIA M.P U.P Bangalore (plant is running) Gujarat (plant will under construction) IN DESERT AREA HIMALAYA(BIGGEST PLACE)

DIS-ADVANTAGES:

High initial cost Less efficient than fossil fuel Noisy Thermal energy must be near surface The required pipe installation is very complex DIS-ADVANTAGES

ADVANTAGES:

ADVANTAGES Improved humidity control Less expensive to operate and maintain Investment return of 3 to 10 years….or less They provide clean heating and cooling with no emissions

ADVANTAGES:

ADVANTAGES Required 20 lit pure water for 1 mw power generation while thermal plant required 2000 lit per mw. Little pollution is produced Little environmental impact Renewable and noncombustible

CONCLUSION:

CONCLUSION By this seminar topic we easily understand that ,what is important role of RENEWABLE SOURCE of energy in our electrical field..? This all renewable source must be used in future but It’s also very useful in present..
