This is expected to impact the energy savings in the medium and long run while at the same time it will position domestic industry to compete in such markets where norms for energy efficiency are mandatory. How to read the energy Label: How to read the energy Label 1. Estimated energy consumption on a scale showing a range for similar models 2. Estimated yearly operating cost based on the national average cost of electricityAir conditioner star ratings in India: Air conditioner star ratings in India Star rating is a system initiated by BEE (Bureau of Energy Efficiency) India to determine the energy efficiency of an electronic product for home use like window and split air-conditioners. Depending on their energy efficiency they are rated on a scale of 1 – 5 and indicated by starts for easy understanding. Higher the number of stars, better is the energy efficiency of an air conditionerAC Star rating Calculation: AC Star rating Calculation The energy efficiency of an AC depends on two factors: Cooling capacity (in BTU) and Power consumption (in Watts) The cooling capacity of one ton AC should be 12000 BTU, 1.5 ton AC 18000 BTU. Some companies rate their air conditioners as 1 ton but actually their cooling capacity is less than 12000 BTU. SO the BEE has brought into force star rating system so that the manufacturers cannot misguide the consumersEnergy &Cost Savings for ACs: Energy &Cost Savings for ACsWhat to check before buying air conditioner: What to check before buying air conditioner While buying air conditioner check the following on the specifications: Cooling capacity in BTU, power consumed in Watts and star rating if available. Star rating is based upon the EER of an AC. EER is cooling capacity divided by power consumed. To calculate EER in watts BTU needs to be converted into watts. 12000 BTU is equal to 3517 watts or 1BTU = 0.2937 Watts or one ton = 3517 watts While it is important to choose an AC with higher star rating, it is equally important not to compromise on the cooling capacity, which is the primary function of an AC.Energy Star Standards for Washing Machines : Energy Star Standards for Washing Machines Washing machines, like all appliances, have a very unique method for determining if a specific model can earn the Energy Star label. To begin with, only front and top loading clothes washers with a capacity greater than 1.6 cubic feet can be qualified to earn an Energy Star label. Also, the minimum modified energy factor (MEF) for a washing machine is 1.42 in order to be considered an Energy Star product.PowerPoint Presentation: The MEF is found by dividing the capacity C by the sum of M + E + D, or MEF = C/(M+E+D). MEF = minimum modified energy factorPowerPoint Presentation: C - The capacity of the clothes container (remember this must be at least 1.6 cubic feet). M - The sum of the machine electrical energy consumption. E - The hot water energy consumption. D - The energy required to remove the remaining moisture for a wash load.Energy Star Rating for Computers: Energy Star Rating for Computers If every home office product purchased in the United States this year had earned the ENERGY STAR, we would: Save more than $75 million in annual energy costs Prevent 1 billion pounds of greenhouse gases, equivalent to emissions from 90,000 cars Save 700 million kWh of electricityPowerPoint Presentation: Power management is important to saving energy, especially since computers are often in use more hours per day than they used to be. ENERGY STAR power management features place computers (CPU, hard drive, etc.) into a low-power "sleep mode" after a designated period of inactivity. Simply hitting a key on the keyboard or moving the mouse awakens the computer in a matter of secondsEarning the ENERGY STAR : Ceiling fan/light combination units that have earned the ENERGY STAR are about 50% more efficient than conventional fan/light units. This can save you more than $15 per year on utility bills. While ENERGY STAR qualified ceiling fans use improved motors and blade designs, you can dramatically increase your savings with ENERGY STAR qualified lighting . Earning the ENERGY STARENERGY STAR qualified ventilation fans: : ENERGY STAR qualified ventilation fans: provide better efficiency and comfort with less noise. feature high performance motors and improved blade design, providing better performance and longer life.Energy Efficient Lighting : Energy Efficient Lighting Electric lighting burns up to 25% of the average home energy budget The electricity used over the lifetime of a single incandescent bulb costs 5 to 10 times the original purchase price of the bulb itself. Compact Fluorescent Lights (CFL) and Light Emitting Diode (LED) bulbs have revolutionized energy-efficient lightingBenefits of LED light bulbs : Benefits of LED light bulbs Long-lasting Durable Cool Mercury-free Cost-effective More efficient – LED light bulbs use only 2-10 watts of electricity (1/3rd to 1/30th of IncandescentBenefits of CFL light bulbs: Benefits of CFL light bulbs Efficient Less Expensive Reduces Air and Water Pollution High-Quality Light VersatileTelevisions: Televisions The energy efficiency label applies to color television including CRT, LCD and Plasma technologies being manufactured, imported, or sold in India for household and similar useStar Rating Plan for Color Televisions - CRT, LCD & Plasma : Star Rating Plan for Color Televisions - CRT, LCD & Plasma Table : Star Rating Equations for CRT TV’s from January 1, 2010 onwards Star Rating Maximum Annual Power Consumption 1 – Star (Max Annual Power Consumption in kWh/Year) P = (0.964 x A) + 4.38 2 – Star (Max Annual Power Consumption in kWh/Year) P = (0.876 x A) + 4.38 3 – Star (Max Annual Power Consumption in kWh/Year) P = (0.788 x A) + 4.38 4 – Star (Max Annual Power Consumption in kWh/Year) P = (0.701 x A) + 4.38 5 – Star (Max Annual Power Consumption in kWh/Year) P = (0.613 x A) + 4.38 Where A = Screen area in square inchesEnergy Efficient Stoves: Energy Efficient Stoves We burn up to a third of our total household energy in the kitchen When looking for energy efficiency, the electric cook tops are going to beat the gas ones hands-down. They are simply more efficient, so if the environment is tops on your list, go with electricPowerPoint Presentation: Thank You……The Formula:: The Formula: Having all of the variables in place, it is now time to plug them into the formula that the Federal Government uses to determine if the washing machining has earned the Energy Star rating. The MEF is found by dividing the capacity C by the sum of M + E + D, or MEF = C/(M+E+D). higher the MEF number, the more energy efficient the washing machine is.
