By 2020 our course guides will include distance learning options for students. 54% of Texas teachers rate themselves as only Average in technological skills and abilities. According to the SBEC Technology Applications Standards for all Teachers. “All teachers should know how to plan, organize, deliver, and evaluate instruction for all students that incorperates the effective use of current technology for teaching and integrating the Technology Applications TEKS into the curriculum.”

Why do we need Star Charts? :

Why do we need Star Charts? To help update our districts technology plan. Measure staff and students technology proficiencies. To determine funding for technology goals and apply for grants. To make sure we are in line with the Texas State Long Range Plan for Technology!

Key Areas of the STAR :

Key Areas of the STAR Key Area I: Teaching and Learning Key Area II: Educator Preperation and Development Key Area III: Leadership, Administration and Instructional support Key Area IIII: Infrastructure for Technology

MHS Ratings from 2006-2009 :

MHS Ratings from 2006-2009 Star Chart Rating System 6-8 Early 9-14 Developing 15-20 Advanced 21-24 Target

Key Area I: Teaching & Learning :

Key Area I: Teaching & Learning Rated Developing past 3 years. High scores yearly in Content Area Connections. High scores in 2007-08 in Design of Instructional setting. Student mastery of TEKS Technology Applications rated at Developing.

Key Area II: Educator Prep & Development :

Key Area II: Educator Prep & Development Developing or LESS for the past 3 years Teachers have scored our campus lowest for all areas of professional development. Main factor to consider is time and money, for such comprehensive training.

Key Area III: Leadership, Administration & Instructional Support :

Key Area III: Leadership, Administration & Instructional Support 2006-07 and 2007-08 we scored Advanced Technology! 2008-09 we dropped to Developing due to lower points in Budget and online learning. We have scored high yearly in Planning and Communication and collaboration.

Key Area IIII: Infrastructure for Technology :

Key Area IIII: Infrastructure for Technology We scored the highest with a 3 in almost every category! Main area for improvement is in Distance Learning Capacity! Score lowered in 2008-09. We rated Students per computer at a 1. This is mainly due to our massive population growth as well our first year housing 9-12.

Our Students. :

Our Students. In 2008 76% had a cell phone. In 2010 98% have a cell phone, 45% of which are blackberries or PDAS. “They have never grown up without the internet or cell phones! How can we expect them to relate to books and lectures!” Lisa Savage, Educator @ MHS

Slide 12:

According to the Texas 2008 Progress report for Long Range Technology 57% of students reported that filters or firewalls prevented their use of technology.

Goals! :

Goals! MHS is currently on track with the states expectations. We join most of the state with a “developing tech” title in most areas. We know that Educator Preperation is our lowest rated section of the star chart. Additional teacher technology skills should be aknowledged. More technology should be expected to be integrated into our curriculum and classrooms. Our Infrastructure is set as an advanced level overall, but we need to be one step ahead of population growth in order to achieve this level. OVERALL- we need to be mentally cognizant of the states Long-Range Plan for Technology in order to keep up and advance.
