The study brings out the brief history of knowledge management from where it begins and where it goes on. The study also reveals the strategies of implementing knowledge management in organization today.

Meaning and Definition: Knowledge management is about applying the collective knowledge of the entire workforce to achieve specific organizational goals. Peter Drucker defines knowledge management as, “Knowledge is power, which is why people who had it in the past often tried to make a secret of it. In post-capitalism, power comes from transmitting information to make it productive, not from hiding it.” Collins English Dictionary defines knowledge as, “the facts, feelings or experiences known by a person or group of people.”

Performing the knowledge audit: The knowledge audit identifies sources of knowledge required to solve the business problem. The knowledge audit does not have to be a long, complex project. It only needs to answer few key questions.

Even the most user-friendly tools won’t help much with managing information unless they are strongly linked to people and processes.

Knowledge management involves changes that may not easily gain the organization’s acceptance unless the leadership mobilizes the middle managers to provide an environment conducive to the widespread sharing of knowledge.
