In this lesson, one character is bent on the accumulation of stuff, the other on the development of knowledge and relationship with loved individuals... Its all about focus... On what do you focus? Improving your physical, financial, or material lot in life, or improving and maintaining healthy & loving relationships with those around you, and especially with the One who created you.... Both foci set you on a trajectory, so where do you want to end up on your death bed? Grasping for just one thing more or looking forward to an eternity of peace with your Maker and having no regrets with your time here with the people who crossed your pathway? Your focus, your choice...

Who Am I?:

Who Am I? In Nature… Not at all sociable Loves shiny stuff Builds, occupies, & reoccupies nests for generations From Scripture… E vidently f rom a wealthy family Sat at the Master’s feet Lived with her brother & sister

The Pack Rat:

The Pack Rat Neotoma (neo=new, tomos = sharp, cutting ref.=teeth ) albigula ( albi =white , gula = throated) Well adapted to desert conditions, this wood rat is a swift runner, builds protective fencing with cacti, is a swift runner, & is an excellent climber.

Life as a pack rat…:

Life as a pack rat… The nest is large, complex, filled with all sorts of stuff, & maybe 100s of years old… When born you have 1-5 siblings, are weaned by the 3 rd week, & by your 3 rd month, you weigh 10x your birth weight. You assuage thirst by eating cacti… Your home is “air conditioned” & might have several interlopers living with you…

Contentment in Scripture :

Contentment in Scripture Pack rats are continually distracted by gathering one more thing & constantly bring new items into the nest… Phil. 3:8; Psalm 39:6; Eccl. 5:10 Pack rats are solitary & will drive others away (esp. immediately after mating), yet lives with the spiders & sometimes snakes…. Pro. 15:27; 1 Tim. 6:9-10 What has it gots in its pocketses ? Its mine, my precioussss !

Relationship Trumps Tradition:

Focusing on things eternal…:

Focusing on things eternal… What was the point of Mary’s gift? Don’t replace worship with works… What was the true cost of Mary’s gift ? About a year’s wage, & perhaps it was her dowry (& maybe a bit of her reputation…) What did her actions show about her? As a committed disciple, her security & trust rested in her belief in Jesus & His teachings.
