Presentation Description

How we present ourselves to the world, to our family, to the stranger; how we take care of ourselves, our homes, our properties... all of it speaks to our willingness to work towards an effective, peaceful life. Sometimes the outside belies the inside... spiffy looks and a lousy character or a good character, but poor manners and having a slacker attitude both accomplish the same unwanted end~you are not taken seriously, or are not respected for who and what you are. Your walk and your ways should match...

Cleanliness & Grooming…:

Cleanliness & Grooming… * Dad usually makes the repair, often with Mom, calling on others only if needed * Dad cleans the lodge, & makes sure it stays orderly * very clean, beavers all groom often We MUST keep our physical, mental, emotional & spiritual areas clean of parasites & impurities … It is a continuous process , even as we work for His purposes.

the importance of proper grooming (including bathing, body hygiene, breath, proper care of clothes, shoes, etc.) :

the importance of proper grooming (including bathing, body hygiene, breath, proper care of clothes, shoes, etc.) Poor hygiene is unpleasant . Foul odors, dirty clothing, & gross things stuck between teeth have a tendency to drive people away . Most people will not take a habitually unclean person seriously, & try to avoid that person. It is hard to be an effective witness

Orderliness for inward cleanliness…:

Orderliness for inward cleanliness… Luke 7:36-50 An voiceless woman, known to be a sinner, gave to the Lord the honor His host should have…

Simon vs the woman…:

Simon vs the woman… *Simon insulted the Lord by NOT: ~granting the kiss greeting, indicating he considered Jesus to be an inferior ~calling a servant to wash Jesus’ feet ~offering oil to offset the smells of travel, indicating Jesus was unworthy of such honor. *The woman, though uninvited was allowed to view the dinner by convention & fulfilled the steps of hospitality the Simon would not…

What’s with kissing feet?:

What’s with kissing feet? a sign of deep affection & honor to kiss the feet of royalty was a sign of subjection & obedience Why both the oil & kissing? She believed Jesus to be worthy of the highest honor & was grateful for his teaching

Simon is indignant… :

Simon is indignant… His pride flared… He had already treated Jesus as a member of the lower class The woman was an outcast & he expected Jesus to rebuff her Her touch would defile a normal man & force the purification rites…

How do we apply all this? :

How do we apply all this? * The Lord forgave her ~ she “owned” her past; was sorrowful over recognized sin; was repentant, grateful & humble * She was willing to fully cleanse her soul & life choices~ she had purged herself with spiritual hyssop * Don’t be a Pharisee & live in your “old clothes” * Recognize when we sin & humble ourselves before the Lord * Cleanse heart, mind, choices & surroundings

Being a Christian should show in behavior & clothes…:

Being a Christian should show in behavior & clothes… * "Soul-grooming" = daily communion with God through prayer & by reading His Word. *"Christian character" is demonstrated when you do the right thing even when it is difficult. Knowing that you belong to Christ will give you a sense of self worth and confidence. After all, Christ died for you, so He must feel you were worth that sacrifice. Rudeness on the part of a Christian reflects poorly on all Christians. So, practice good manners because we are ambassadors of Christ.

A Final Word from the Word:

A Final Word from the Word 2 Corinthians 7:1 Having therefore these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God. Psalm 51:7 Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean: wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.
