Slide 2: 

Books are placed on the shelves in correct call number order. A call number is the address of the book comprised of a classification number and shelf marks. A call number is created with letters, numbers or symbols used to identify and locate the book your looking for.

Slide 3: 

Call Numbers consist of two parts: 1. Dewy Decimal Classification number, ( for example, 299) 2. Cutter Number, ( For example, HAR) Decimals are often always added to make call numbers more specific.

Dewey Decimal Classification: -000: Information & General Works -100: Philosophy & Psychology -200 Religion -300: Social Sciences -400: Language -500: Science -600: Technology -700: Arts & Recreation -800: Literature -900: History & Geography

Easy-These books are found in the Easy Section, by the first letter of the author’s last name. ( E R) :

Fiction-Found in the Fiction Section by the first three letters of the author’s last name. ( F Tor) :

Biographies-These books are arranged alphabetically by the last name of the person featured in the book, not by author. ( B Joh ) :

Slide 8: 

Non-Fiction-These books are found in ascending numerical order from 000-999.99 The author’s first three letters from the author’s last name are included in the call number. ( 398.24 Bah )

Reference- These books have an R before the Call number and are arranged in ascending Number order like the other non fiction books. ( R 421.3 Wor )

FYI: The call numbers read from left to right, and top to bottom. Start at the top left and go right across the shelf and go from left to right again. When you reach the bottom, go up to the top of the next column of shelves.
