Types Of Cosmetic Ingredients : Types Of Cosmetic Ingredients Active ingredient Preservatives Antioxidants Coloring agents Miscellaneous CONTROL OVER INGREDIENTS : CONTROL OVER INGREDIENTS Restrictions and prohibitions on ingredients by EU Cosmetic Directive and they are Annex2-Negative list Annex3- Restricted list Annex4- Positive list of Colorants Annex6-Positive list of Preservatives Annex7-Positive list of UV filters TYPES Of HAZARDS : TYPES Of HAZARDS Topical effects Skin irritation Eye irritation Mucous membrane irritation Skin sensitization Systemic effects SAFETY EVALUATION : SAFETY EVALUATION Irritation and corrosivity Skin sensitization Dermal/percutaneous absorption Repeated dose toxicity Mutagenicity/genotoxicity, Carcinogenicity Reproductive toxicity Toxicokinetics Photo-induced toxicity Ethical Constraints In Human Testing : Ethical Constraints In Human Testing By eliminating animal testing, the need for human testing is increased Confirmatory safety tests are sometimes necessary and can be carried out in man. SCCNFP came to the conclusion that confirmatory tests on humans can only be considered when the toxicological profiles of all ingredients and of the finished cosmetic product, based on animal and/or alternative methods, are available and have all been found favorable Challenges in safety evaluation : Challenges in safety evaluation Moving from in vivo to in vitro testing. Urgent need for appropriate exposure data. New role of raw material suppliers. The need for appropriate training. Ethical constraints in human testing. Special problems for small and medium enterprises (SMEs). CONCLUSION : CONCLUSION Safety evaluation of cosmetic ingredients are necessary before formulation of cosmetic products and it helps to save money and time REFERENCES : REFERENCES http://www.Ispe.it/en/defaultz.html http://www.cfsan.fda.gov/~dms/cos_toc.html Fischer AA.
