Kalinga (as present Orissa) in Jainism.. Bhagwan Risahbdev divided this country into 52states in the beginning of Karmabhumi ,one as KALINGA. One of his son name was also Kalinga. Bhagwan Risahbdev , Parasnath, Mahavir visited this place several time. Gajkumar , son of King Sherink got kevelghayn and nirvana here. 500 sons of king Yashodhar with 1 crores muni got nirvana here , as in nirvana kand… ‘ जसरथ  राजा  के  सुत  कहे , देश  कलिंग  पांचसौ  लहे | कोटिशिला  मुनि  कोटि  प्रमाण , वंदन  करू  जोड़ जुगपान || Historian found kotishila as kumari parvet (khandagiri hill). Khandgiri caves:

Khandgiri caves The caves are situated at  Bhubaneswar in Orissa on two hill Udayagiri and Khandagiri . One of the earliest of Jain rock-cut shelters , these caves command a unique position in eastern India in the fields of history, rock-cut architecture, art and religion. The rock cut caves at Khandagiri and Udayagiri date back to the 1st century BC when king Kharavela ruled the Kalinga Empire . Belonging to the Mahameghavahana dynasty, King Kharavela and his wife were patrons of art , jain religion and projects that lead to social welfare such as Orissa's water canal system. King Kharavela And Jainism:

King Kharavela And Jainism During the reign of Khārabēḷa, the chedi  dynasty of Kaḷinga ascended to eminence and restored the lost power and glory of Kaḷinga, which had been subdued since the devastating war with Asoka. Kaḷingan military might was reinstated by Khārabēḷa. Before his home ward march the monarch brought back from Magadha the greatest and by far the most significant war trophy to his home land was the Original Idol of Kalinga's  Jain Tirthankars Idol ( kalingajina) that adorned the spiritual realm of Magadha. This Kalinga Tirthankars as once the invaluable religious property of Kalinga. Kalinga Jina Idol is already converted as Jagannath (Puri). King Mahameghavahana--Kharavela of Kalinga and his Jaina Council held at Udayagiri in the 1 3th year of his reign (2nd Century B.C.). Importance Of These Caves:

Importance Of These Caves Meant for the residence of Jaina ascetics noted for their self mortification, the caves provide a little amenities. The depiction of 24 Tirthankaras along with Sasanadevis in the Barabhuji cave with rock cut foot-prints. 15 caves on khandgiri and 18 caves on udayagiri, all has beautiful carved jain idols , very ancient Inscription in Brahmi lipi , stunning sculptures which reflects a rich jain architecture there. HATHIGUMPHA CAVE INSCRIPTION:

HATHIGUMPHA CAVE INSCRIPTION Hathigumpha Inscription consists of seventeen lines incised in deep cut Brahmi letters. The inscription is dated 165th year of the era of the Maurya kings, and 13th year of kharavela 's reign. HATHIGUMPHA -UDAYGIRI The Hathigumpha inscription starts with a version of the auspicious NAMOKAR MANTRA. नमो अरहंतानं [।।] णमो सवसिधानं [।।]

Some important lines of inscription… Line 1 - Salutation to Arhats, salutation to all siddhs. Ārya Mahāmeghavāhana Mahārājā Śrī Khāravela, the overlord of Kalinga. Line 9-10 - And in the ninth year [His Majesty] caused to be built [in Kalinga Nagari] the Great Victory palace the royal residence at the cost of thirty eight hundred thousand (coins). Then in the tenth year, [His Majesty] the embodiment of politics, diplomacy and peace, caused [ the army] to march through Bharatavarsa for conquest. Line 11-12 - And in the twelfth year, [ His Majesty] terrorised the king of Uttarapatha by an army of hundred thousand, after that [His Majesty] generated great fear among the people of Magadha while making the elephants and horses drink in the Ganges, [ His Majesty] made Bahasatimita, the King of Magadha, obeisance at his feet. [ His Majesty] then brought back the image of Kalinga Jina with its thrown and endowment that had been taken away by king Nanda and the jewels plundered by him (King Nanda) from the Kalinga royal palace, along with the treasures of Anga and Magadha. :

This is the oldest inscription where we find the word Bhaarat (the original name of India), and the story of KALINGA JINA ( JAIN IDOL) , later converted as JAGANATH (PURI).

They have also changed the name of cave as Maa Barabhuja durga originally Barabhuji cave ( named so from two 12 armed (bara-bhuj) figures of sasana-devis carved on the side walls of the veranda )

The Pandas do not allow Jains to come these caves and behave rudely . They also making thousands of Rupees per day from Hindu pilgrims. They have converted the originality of such caves , If their will be no immediate action against him then they can ENCROACHED other caves and temples ,situated on the hills. JAGO JAIN JAGO!!! This time is not for zipped-lip. we have to do something for our heritage otherwise we lose another Thirthchetra like Girnar , Badrinath , Tirupati and many more…..

This place is in under Archeological survey of India . Shabby frames and doors with locks are used to protect the interior from. It certainly looks ugly, but probably the only thing that could make the ASI to protect the unique historical  monuments from encroachment . Those caves which have no doors by ASI and have ancient idols encroached by Brahman and now a days a illegal way to their income by pilgrims .

What we can do..:

What we can do.. Contact to ASI via mail/phone or personals and do complain. If ASI will not reply we have to talk with upper government department like ministry of culture , ministry of tourism, Orissa government, prime minster, president etc. Promote this sidhchetra ,tell to others and visit this place . Discuss this topic with jain organizations muni ,aaryika ,jain scholars . Donate to needed(like this) temples and Motivate/Aware others to do so. What we have done…:

What we have done… Done mail to ASI and other Government department. Created a FB group for Jain Heritage and added Volunteers. Defined our objectives and plans. Post a RTI letter to Bhubhaneshawar Circle PIO regarding this, result awaited. Created a list contains places need urgent care and renovation. We will talk to our munis and other persons/trusts to do this. COME AHEAD JAINS , IT IS RIGHT TIME TO DO SOMETHING FOR OUR RELIGION ,TO SAVE OUR HERITAGE . IF WE DO NOTHING NOW, WE GRADUALLY  LOSE ALL JAIN TIRTH . THE FUTURE GENERATION WILL READ ABOUT JAIN HERITAGE ONLY IN BOOKS  AND WE CAN NOT FORGIVE US FOR THIS .
