The average population living below poverty line in the state is 20%. Raichur highest with 46% followed by Kolar 42% Chickmagalore is in better position with only 2% of its population living BPL. Poverty

The average literacy rate of Karnataka is 67. Male Literacy rate = 76.26; Female = 56.87. Bangalore Urban and Dakshina Kannada districts leading with 83 each. Raichur has the lowest literary rate of 49 15 districts has the literacy rate below state’s average. The compound growth rate of literacy from 1991 to 2001 is 1.24 to 2.52

Sex ratio of Karnataka is 974. Among the districts Dakshina Kannada leading with 1022 followed by Hassan with 1004. Bangalore urban district has lowest ratio with 908 17 districts have sex ratios below state’s average Note that the very high sex ratios in some districts may be due to high outmigration of males. Similarly, Bangalore's very low figure may be due to more males coming without their families for work or study.

The average 0-6 sex ratio of the state is 952. Kogagu has highest with 977 Belgaum has least with 921 followed by Bijapur with 920. 16 districts were falls below the State’s average. Raichur which has the lowest literacy rate stood 2nd highest in this category. Dakshina Kannada which has highest general sex ratio, equal to state’s average in this category.

More than 40% girls were married before 18 years in 5 districts.

Infant Mortality Rate (2005-06) According to Health and Family Welfare Department, the IMR of the State is 21 in 2005-06. Udupi district has least with 8 and Bellary has highest with 35. In many districts the IMR is less than some of the developed countries. Nearly 11 districts has IMR higher than the State’s average.

Almost all the children has received polio in Bangalore but only 74% children have received in Bijapur. In 4 districts, it is more than 97% and in Kodagu district it has sen percent. Only 92.4 % of the children received in Bangalore district. None of the districts fall below state’s average.

Number of allotted Anganawadis at present = 51,614 Number of Anganawadis functioning = 49,049 Number of Anganawadis yet to be function = 2,565 Among them in Belgaum, Davanagere and Raichur districts nearly 300 each anganawadis is yet to function.
