PowerPoint Presentation:

From most of the thriller films I watched there is usually a shot of a character with their back to the camera. Whether long shot or medium shot this keeps the character mysterious. An enigma could is created because the audience will ask who is that character?

PowerPoint Presentation:

Extreme closes up’s are always used. These shots get right into the characters face and place emphasis on the characters eyes mouth or nose. These shots can add to suspense of the scene, give an insight into the characters thoughts and feelings.

PowerPoint Presentation:

Close-up- characters head and shoulders. This shots allows audience to know what the characters emotions are. Close up on objects draws attention to it and shows that it is significant in the narrative. This can either build tension or give the audience a clue.

PowerPoint Presentation:

There are usually close up on body parts of the character. This shows the movements of the character. It can give insight to what the character is doing for example a close up of somebody's hand hiding something and their intentions. Also close ups of the characters body parts are usually shown before the whole of the character is shown especially in thrillers.

PowerPoint Presentation:

Depth of field: Shallow focus is used. The object in the mans hand is focused on a everything else in the frame is in shallow focus. This emphasises the object he is holding which tells the audience it is important and also creates an enigma code. The shallow focus on the picture on the right tells the audience that some thing is bad is about to happen and the object in the foreground will cause it but the characters a clueless.

PowerPoint Presentation:

High angle shots are always used especially for the victim. It presents the character as being vulnerable and in danger.

PowerPoint Presentation:

Some thrillers are set in mundane settings such as a city where the audience are not expecting something bad to happen. This is effective as it makes creates more thrills.

PowerPoint Presentation:

Lighting: Low key lighting. This is used to keep characters mysterious from the beginning before they are introduced or used for a villain to make him appear more evil. Low key lighting keeps the audience glued to the film as they are trying to see what is in the scene. It is also tension building because you cannot see if something is lurking.
