The geographical position of Magnitogorsk is unusual. The city is divided into two parts by the river Ural. One part of the city is in Europe, and the other is in Asia. A few kilometers away from the city there is a unique archaeological complex named Arkaim whose foundation dates back to 17-16 ages BC. This site of ancient settlement is a pilgrimage place for people from all over the world. As far as sports are concerned the city is famous for its hockey club «Metallurg» and for its pupil, Evgenij Malkin who now plays for “Pittsburg Penguins” .

In Magnitogorsk there are more than 1300 industrial enterprises, the most important of which is JSC “Magnitogorsk Iron and Steel Works”. Metal-working enterprises of the city, building and industrial enterprises are well-developed. The sphere of trading and services is up to high standards. It is the Magnitogorsk Chamber of Commerce and Industry that has a great influence on the development of the city’s economics.
