Machines are not just dumb devices but intelligent creations that can work with
humans. I the future that looks like a robotic utopia in a robot. This future is not just an
invention but a natural evolution of two of today’s most powerful technologies —
Artificial Intelligence and the Internet of Things.
What is Artificial Intelligence and the Internet of Things
Artificial Intelligence deals with the creation of systems that can learn to imitate human
tasks using their previous experience and without any manual intervention. Basically
Intelligent Systems. The Internet of Things on the other hand is a network of various
devices connected to the Internet and they can collect and exchange data with each
other.
Why is Artificial Intelligence Necessary for IoT
According to Business Insider there will be more than 64 billion IoT devices by 2025 up
from about 9 billion in 2017. All these IoT devices generate a lot of data which must be
collected and mined for results of operations. This is where Artificial Intelligence comes

into the picture. The Internet of Things is used to collect and manage the huge amount of
data required for artificial intelligence algorithms. In turn these algorithms turn the
data into useful action results that can be implemented by IoT devices.
In the words of Massij Kranz Vice President of Corporate Strategic Innovation at Cisco.
“Without AI-powered analytics the data they produce across IoT devices and across the
network is of limited value. Similarly AI systems can struggle to stay relevant in business
settings without IoT-generated data. However the powerful combination of AI and IoT
can transform industries and help us make more sensible decisions from the explosive
growth of data every day. IoT is like the body and AI brains can create new value
propositions business models revenue streams and services. “
Applications of Artificial Intelligence in the Internet of Things
Like a match made in Artificial Intelligence and the Internet of Things Tech Heaven
Although these two domains have personal value their true potential is realized
together. There are a variety of applications in multiple industries that require artificial
intelligence and the Internet of Things. Some of these are listed below:
1. Collaborative robots
Ever wanted a robot Well you get with cooperative robots or cobots. These robots are
highly complex machines designed to assist humans in a shared workspace from office
to industrial environments. They can be a robot designed to perform tasks or a complex
robot designed to accomplish difficult tasks.
2. Drones
Drones are aircraft without a human pilot done by piloting software. They are
particularly useful because they can navigate unfamiliar environments even beyond the
Internet and reach dangerous areas for humans such as offshore operations mines
battlefields or burning buildings.
3. Smart Cities
When everything is smart why not whole cities Smart cities can be created with a
network of sensors connected to the physical city infrastructure. These sensors can be

used to monitor the city for a variety of civilian factors such as energy efficiency air
pollution water use noise pollution traffic conditions and so on.
4. Digital twins
Digital twins are twin obviously Objects one of which is a real-world object and the
other is its digital counterpart. These items range from aircraft engines to wind turbines.
Digital twins are mainly used to evaluate the performance of materials and reduce the
costs required for testing without the use of traditional test methods.
5. Smart Retailing
It’s Shopping Made Smart Retailers can use AI and IoT to understand customer behavior
by studying consumer online profile store inventory etc. and then send real-time
personalized offers while the customer is in the store.
Real-World Examples
While artificial intelligence is a relatively new concept in the Internet of Things it has
already been successfully applied in many real-world applications. Yes the world is
more technologically advanced than we thought Some of these applications are listed
as follows:
Tesla Motors — Self Driving Cars: Self-driving cars are like futuristic sci-fi but they are
very much part of today’s reality. Tesla Motors’ self-driving cars use the latest advances
in artificial intelligence and the Internet of Things. Although these cars are still in the
testing phase with multiple legal and ethical concerns as luggage They are still one of
the easiest innovations of IoT.

testing phase with multiple legal and ethical concerns as luggage They are still one of
the easiest innovations of IoT.
A unique feature of Tesla self-driving cars is that they all function as connected
networks. Whenever a car learns some new information it is sent to all the other cars. It
can be used to assess the behavior of cars and pedestrians on the road under different
conditions.
Wildtrack — Endangered Species Protection: There are many endangered or
endangered animals in various countries no thanks to man. Also traditional methods
of tracking these animals with collars are stressful and dangerous for both animals and
researchers. Wildtrack’s Footprint Recognition Technology FIT therefore uses IoT and
AI algorithms to identify species individuals ages and sexes from an animal’s unique
footprint. These data can be used to identify patterns related to animal movements
species populations etc. that can help preserve various endangered species.
Nest Labs — Smart Thermostat: Smart Thermostat everything is getting smart these
days Nest Labs uses IoT to allow temperature checking and control from anywhere
using smartphone integration. It’s also easy to use which is one of the primary reasons
for its success unlike AI and IoT.
Artificial intelligence plays a big role in the Nest Labs thermostat. It is used to
understand users’ temperature preferences and their daily schedules. It is then adapted
to the optimal temperature and maximum energy savings.
Automated Vacuum Cleaner — iRobot Roomba: With everything else becoming
smart why not a smart vacuum cleaner The iRobot Roomba was developed by three
members of MIT’s Artificial Intelligence Lab and uses IoT and AI to clean a room as
efficiently as possible. It is a robotic vacuum cleaner that uses a set of sensors to detect
obstructions dirty spots on the floor or upright drops such as stairs.
So it essentially memorizes the outline of the living space which machines can do
anyway And then uses the most efficient and economical moves to clean. The
smartphone app can be used to adjust performance requirements with “clean” mode
“spot” mode “dock” mode etc.
The future ahead

This is an exciting new time to live for humans and for machines. With multiple
advances in artificial intelligence light-speed communications and analytics IoT is
becoming more flexible and high-performance IoT devices are taking over every domain
of technology. In addition declining hardware costs make it possible to embed sensors
and connectivity on any device that is compatible.
Taken together Artificial Intelligence and the Internet of Things make “smart” the norm
in a new era and the future of robotic utopia seems to be more achievable in the present.
