What You Need to Know Before You Buy a Pair of Dr Martens

Slide2:

So, you're thinking about buying a pair of Dr Martens. Well, I’ve owned a few pairs and I can tell you that they are my favourite brand of footwear. Not only are the stylish, but they are always very comfortable, and, in fact, are the most comfortable type of footwear I’ve ever worn. However, there are a few issues that you can encounter when buying Dr Martens. It’s important that you make the correct choices and that you understand a few things about them before you buy them. If you make the wrong choices, then you might end up with a pair of shoes or boots that don’t work too well for you. This would be a shame, because as I said, they are a fantastic brand of footwear and it would be a shame for you to miss out.   You'll need to make sure you buy the right size. Ok, so this is true for any type of shoe, but it’s particularly pertinent with DMs because you need to break them in. if you break in a pair of DMs that are either too big or too small, you will end up with problems, such as blisters around the toes and heel, or ankle pain.

Slide3:

I always recommend that you have your feet measured to ensure you know your exact measurements. You should then compare these the DMs manufacture’s size charts to double check that their sizes correspond to the size you’ve established your feet to be, e.g. if you found you were a size 5 at the cobblers, makes sure this is the same as a size 5 from Dr Martens.   They need breaking in. Dr Martens can hurt your feet to start with because the leather is quite tough. For this reasons, there’s a breaking in period of a couple of weeks. I recommend that you start wearing them for an hour or two a day initially, then build up your wear time until you can wear them all the time.   You don’t have to stick to a classic style or colour. One thing that puts many people off buying DMs is that they assume that there’s only one style. While this was the case 20 or so years ago, it isn’t anymore. Nowadays, you can find a huge range of options within the DM range.

Slide5:

For example, womens Dr Martens boots can be classic in style, or they can be Chelsea boots, rider boots, and or different styles of shoes. They also come in a huge range of styles and patterns. You aren't bound by the styles of the past.   You don’t have to belong to a particular counter-culture. Another thing that is off-putting is their association with certain counter-cultures, e.g. the punks and skinheads. Today, though, they’re no longer necessarily associated with counter-cultures, and are pretty mainstream – especially if you choose non-classic styles of men’s and womens Dr Martens boots and shoes.   They’re hardwearing and long lasting, and this makes them a fantastic choice of footwear.
