Relationships: Disrespect in Today’s Society

Relationships: Disrespect in Today’s Society:

A common complaint in local communities and schools is that the youths of today just aren’t disciplined the way they used to be. Some people think that because of too much drinking, swearing, and destroying of public property, young people are out of control. Relationships: Disrespect in Today’s Society

Relationships: Disrespect in Today’s Society:

In America today, it seems as though more and more teenagers are acting disrespectfully toward adults. The belief that youths must respect their elders has completely disappeared. The general attitude is disobedience and rudeness . Relationships: Disrespect in Today’s Society

Relationships: Disrespect in Today’s Society:

Respect is when people use words or actions to respond to the feelings, choices, and rights of individuals. In healthy relationships it is necessary to have respect for ourselves and respect for others. The “Golden Rule” has always been used when defining respect, “ Treat others the way you want to be treated.” Relationships: Disrespect in Today’s Society

Relationships: Disrespect in Today’s Society:

When you respect someone, you treat them with care and courtesy . Respect is more than just good manners or politeness. It comes from the belief that other people have as much worth as you, and that harming others or their property is wrong. Relationships: Disrespect in Today’s Society

Relationships: Disrespect in Today’s Society:

Kids usually learn to be respectful of rules at home and at school, to not make fun of friends, and to use polite speech. Kids aren’t born respectful. Parents are the key role models for most of their children’s behaviors, including respect. Relationships: Disrespect in Today’s Society

Relationships: Disrespect in Today’s Society:

Kids learn much more from their parents’ example than from anything else. They learn respect from their parents and other adults in their lives from imitation and direct teaching. How moms and dads treat each other will define how kids will behave with members of the opposite sex. Relationships: Disrespect in Today’s Society

However, adults can also be negative role models if they speak rudely to a waiter, swear at slow drivers, or treat their own parents disrespectfully. Modern families contain parents who are more focused on their careers than the success of their families. As teens grow up, they often use bad language to express themselves and talk back to their parents in inappropriate ways. Relationships: Disrespect in Today’s Society

Relationships: Disrespect in Today’s Society:

It is the duty of parents to teach their children in the correct way to behave toward adults. The problem is once the teens threaten parents, and parents back down, the teenagers feel powerful. The parent then loses control over the teen, feeling weak and powerless. Relationships: Disrespect in Today’s Society

Relationships: Disrespect in Today’s Society:

Once teenagers feel it is acceptable to be disrespectful to their parents, they become disrespectful to other adults and anyone else around them. Teens will mimic the disrespect and disobedience that their friends show at school toward their teachers. Relationships: Disrespect in Today’s Society

Relationships: Disrespect in Today’s Society:

Schools need to enforce more disciplinary action against rude teens to punish them for their lack of respect. In their daily lives, they observe others being rude to their friends and their parents, so they do the same. Peer pressure is still increasing, so teenagers want to act like their friends. Another problem in our society today is that respectful behavior is no longer seen as important in the media, and kids have learned how to be disrespectful instead. In the media, disrespectful teenagers are “hip” or cool. We see more and more disrespectful teenagers on TV because it is entertaining to watch. However, it is causing an epidemic of disrespectful people. Relationships: Disrespect in Today’s Society

On the popular reality show “My Super Sweet Sixteen”, spoiled teen girls treat their parents with a lack of respect in order to get what they want. Parents in these shows only care about buying their children happiness, so the kids believe their parents don’t care about them. The 16 year olds will treat their parents disrespectfully to take power from their parents. Relationships: Disrespect in Today’s Society

Unfortunately, television is promoting this disrespectful behavior, children are practicing disrespect at home, and learning disrespect at school from their peers. America is known for being a nation with kind and respectful people. However, if today’s youth do not learn respect from somewhere, our nation may be soon led by leaders who are disrespectful, with little values. Relationships: Disrespect in Today’s Society
