Check that your child is bringing home his/her Pack – N – Read every school night. Set aside time for your child to read every day. Make reading a family affair! Set aside time every day for the entire family to read. There is a lot of information on the internet that supports parents’ efforts. What Should My Child’s Writing Look & Sound Like? : 

It should look like it is full of specific details. Is the story organized with a beginning, middle, & end? Can you picture in your mind what is happening? Are verbs being used to create images? Can you feel the character’s emotion? It should sound like your child. Can you hear your child’s voice? Does it sound just like it would if your child was telling it to you in conversation? Just Right Books in the Classroom : 

Every week your child goes book shopping in the classroom with his/her Just Right Book level in mind. S/he chooses 3 fiction & 3 nonfiction books. S/he may also choose audio books. A DRA is a Developmental Reading Test. Broad Brook School administers the DRA 3x/year September January May When taking the DRA, your child Reads aloud a portion of the book to determine their reading fluency.
