Hurricane Katrina A hurricane was predicted to impact the Gulf Coast . As the low pressure, global warming, and water vapor continued in the Atlantic .It grew to a category 3 and moved towards the Gulf of Mexico. At the last minute the storm changed for the worst.

After impacting Florida it went back out to sea and had 20-30 different weather patterns. At that time the state had a evacuation plan to get all New Orleans out. As August 29,2005 , just after midnight the winds began to get stronger, the winds were up to 160miles per hour as the storm headed directly for New Orleans .It was a category 4.Not sure if intensity more when it hit the Gulf Coast. As the day dawns, many of Louisiana and Mississippi people prepared for the worst. IT was the sixth strongest storm in history. Eighty percent of New Orleans was under water. Many people chose to ride the storm out and many got trapped and a huge percent died. Due to levee system 5feet of water stood around the buildings and towns. Seventy-five billion physical damaged Louisiana and Mississippi exceeded 150billion . The death toll grew up to 1,577 in Louisiana and 238 in Mississippi.

Many people and Fema began to come to New Orleans to help out. They had to watch out for looters and thieves that took guns from Wal-Mart. Sheriff department had to use boats to pick up people. The National Guard also was there watching and helping .

Louisiana had many people donate money and there time. They donated over 4billion dollars. Seventy countries gave money to Louisiana . Fema came in and gave 2.7 million dollars. An many of people from Louisiana and Mississippi still suffer from Hurricane Katrina damage.

Interesting Facts Three-thousand people were rescued by boats. Up to 36,000 people with out power. Casino’s built on barges along the coast were destroyed or damaged severely. Thousands staying in the super dome homeless their for shelter.
