What is the purpose of the notebook? : 

Notebooks Scientific What is the purpose of the notebook? They make science experiences more meaningful. This is the place where students can record, document observations, and draw conclusions.

How do you develop student ownership? : 

Notebooks Scientific How do you develop student ownership? Make entries in the notebook every day. Develop a sense of ownership by personalizing the notebooks with student designed covers. Share student notebooks with peers, parents and teachers whenever possible. The notebook belongs to the student; it is a record of their thinking and learning;and is a work in progress.

How do you model science notebooks for students? : 

Notebooks Scientific How do you model science notebooks for students? It is beneficial for teachers to keep a science notebook of their own along with the class. This is a good way to model the different components of the science notebook. The teacher can use the document camera to display the notebook as the students form their own observations, data and conclusions.

How do you set up a table of contents? :

The table of contents can be located on the first few pages of the notebook that will be used for the entire year of science or have a separate table of contents at the beginning of each unit. The required components of the table of contents are the date of entry, a title of the activity, and the page number(s).

How do you incorporate vocabulary into the notebook? : 

Notebooks Scientific How do you incorporate vocabulary into the notebook? Vocabulary meaning is best uncovered by the student during the investigation or experiment. It should not be stated or introduced in the Purpose or Question. After the investigation or experiment is complete, the proper vocabulary should be introduced and entered under the Line Of Learning.

What is included under the Line of Learning (LOL)? :

In the LOL you should include the answer to your daily question (if applicable), key concepts, vocabulary, and explanations of the daily objectives. The LOL is a summary of what you want students to be accountable for learning.

How do you assess notebooks? :

Some possible assessments could include; reviewing the notebooks' content at the end of a chapter/unit based on the teacher's guidelines, periodic open notebook quizzes, occasional spot checking of the notebooks by the teacher, & peer review of the notebooks.

What if a student is absent or misses a lesson? : 

Notebooks Scientific What if a student is absent or misses a lesson? Smart Notebook is a recommended way of recording a class notebook. If a student misses a lesson, the teacher can easily print out the notebook page and the child can tape it in their notebook. Another strategy is to keep a hard copy of your class notebook and a child can borrow it to copy.
