We discussed how to make an effective presentation using clipart, animations, fonts, colors, backgrounds, and more. They were encouraged to try different things so that we could discuss as a class what works and what doesn't work as well. They did a great job. The planet probably got it’s name due to it’s red color because it is referred to as The Red Planet. The name of the month March derives from Mars. Mars is a small rocky planet that is cold and lifeless. Mercury : Mercury Small rocky planet Been visited by Mariner 10 spacecraft Thinks that there may be volcanic activity temp. ranges from 90k to 700k Moves quickly across the sky Closest planet to the sun Its greek god is Hermes Neptune! : Neptune! Neptune was called the God of the sea by the roman mythology. In the book Lightning Thief Poseidon was the God of sea like Neptune. Neptune has hurricanes bigger than Earth Neptune has very dark faint rings. Neptune used to have a Great Dark Spot but scientists recently discovered it disappeared. Neptune had a white cloud that zipped around it every 16 hours. Neptune is a blue planet. Neptune is the 6th planet from the sun. Jupiter : Jupiter Jupiter had a storm called a red spot Made of 90% of hydrogen and 10% of helium A gas giant it is a the largest planet Jupiter has 63 or more moons It is 318 times bigger than Earth Jupiter is fifth planet from the sun Neptune : Neptune Fourth largest Smaller than Uranus Heavier than Uranus 8th or 9th planet Was god of sea Only been visited from Voyager 2 EARTH : EARTH One moon 4.5 to 4.6 billion years old Densest body in solar system Center can be as hot as 7500k Only third planet from sun Only planet with life MERCURY : MERCURY It’s small and rocky Mercury is known as Hermies in greek mythology It’s much like our moon It’s closest to the sun It has no satellites It’s covered in craters 8th largest of the 9 planets Earth : Earth Earth is the only planet whose English name does not derive from Greek or Roman mythology This is the planet we live on Made mostly of water Mars : Mars god of war Mars is referred to as the red planet Mars has permanent ice caps made of carbon dioxide Very strong winds blow through mars for months Mars has two moons that orbit very close to the surface The southern hemisphere is mostly ancent cratered highlands much like our moon VENUS : VENUS Once had water like Earth Has lava About same size as Earth Closest planet to Earth Greek god of love Brightest object in sky (besides sun and moon) Pluto : Pluto Small, icy “dwarf planet” god of underworld Has not been visited by spacecraft There is one on the way Orbit is wacky crosses in front of Neptune It is the eighth planet for a short time Has a moon called Charon Venus : Venus Venus is a very hot planet It does not rain there Rotates slower than any other planet 2nd planet away from the sun Not a gas giant SATURN : SATURN Saturn is cronus in Greek Saturns rings are made of ice and water It has many big storms The rings are very bright It is mostly made up of gas and liquid The rings are 1.5 kilometers long Saturn’s the 2nd largest planet No one lives on Saturn Saturn is the 6th planet from the Sun Saturn has 18 moons Uranus : Uranus Uranus is the Greek god of Heaven 7th planet from the sun 3rd largest planet Has rings made up mostly of rock &various ice Spins side ways 15 moons Its a blue planet Uranus brightest ring is known as the “Epsilon” ring Jupiter : Jupiter King of roman gods Fifth planet from sun Largest out of all eight planets Gas giant We see swirls and bands Clouds are high in the atmosphere Uranus : Uranus Uranus is the Greek god of Heaven 7th planet from the sun The third largest planet Has rings made up of mostly rock & various ice Spin side ways 15 moons It’s a blue planet Uranus brightest ring is known as the “Epsilon” ring Saturn : Saturn Sixth planet from sun Second largest planet Has an equator Big storms Made of gas + liquid Spins very quickly 18 moons You do not have the permission to view this presentation.
