Why do you use the phone? We use it to talk to friends, family. We use it to make reservations We use it to make appointments Slide 3: This man could be calling a doctor, a hotel or a friend. So, who do you call on the phone? Slide 4: The steps: Callers introduction: callers should always identify themselves. For ex: “Hello, this is Ken” Callers purpose: Why are you calling? Ex: “Could I speak to…?” Slide 5: Answering the phone: The person who answers should always say “hello”. Also the receiver of the call should ask who is calling if they do not know the person. Ex: “Who’s calling please?” or “Who may I ask is calling?” Slide 6: Other useful expressions: Hello, is Jim there please? Could I speak to Jim please? Speaking This is Jim, who’s calling? (this is formal) Now lets listen to a sample phone call Slide 7: AB what’s going on? Not much, just taking it easy today. Work’s been killing me lately. What do you say we head downtown and grab a coffee at the Starbucks near plaza 66. I’ve had way too much caffeine lately. I wouldn’t mind grabbing something to eat though. Would you be up for that? It’s a nice day today, so we could get something at Element Fresh near the Portman. They’ve got a patio so we could sit outside. Slide 8: Sure, do you want to workout after? I’ve already gone.
