Every New Year, people make a resolution. A kind of promise to themselves. There is something a person wants to change. For example: Exercise is everybody’s number one resolution.

Often, you will be asked the question. Have you made any New Year’s Resolutions? Most people will take that as an invitation to share there plans with the other person. They say things like I’m going to go on a diet. I will exercise more. I’m going to try and drink less alcohol.

I’m going to spend more time with family. I would like to start a new hobby. I want to stop dating losers. I’m going to meet Mr./Mrs/ right. I am going to start investing more money. I will be more helpful in the community.

Did you notice any patterns in the sentences? When speaking about the things in the future, especially about resolutions or plans for the future, The word “will” and the phrase “going to” are used.
