20*20 business development manager Richard Trainer said the 2009 Housing Industry Association (HIA)-National Australia Bank (NAB) Mid-West Awards included Innovation in Housing , Framed Home of the Year, Residential Designer of the Year and Outdoor Project of the Year.

"The design required considerable engineering and bracing to make this style practical in this location, so the design team worked closely with the engineering team to offer a workable solution. They also had to work out how to overcome the fact that no gutters could be installed in this tropical location, causing the major issue of water run-off around the entry and exit points of the home," Mr Trainer said.

Richard Trainer of Perth added that Maltings was designed with a large, modern open-plan living area to cope with the owners' constant stream of guests, and the master bedroom was built separate from the guest wing to allow the owners some privacy.
