PowerPoint Presentation:

The process began almost two years ago to develop a “Vision for the Future”. Parish Leadership, consisting of the Pastoral, Finance and Stewardship Councils, and Ministry Commissions in addition to the Pastoral Staff began an in-depth dialog regarding the future direction of St. Edna. 2

PowerPoint Presentation:

3 Why do we need a Vision for the Future? In today’s world all organized religions are losing members. In the United States 70% of Catholics do not attend Mass and only 28% of St. Edna parishioners attend Mass.

PowerPoint Presentation:

4 Our future is our youth and the youth of our community are bombarded daily with conflicting messages from today’s culture. Their needs are different than the older generations and we need to reach them where they live. Why do we need a Vision for the Future?

PowerPoint Presentation:

5 Before we could begin developing St. Edna’s “Vision for the Future” the Parish Leadership began to formulate a Strategic Initiative to act as the corner stone of the Vision. Beginning the process.

PowerPoint Presentation:

What is a Strategic Initiative? If done correctly it becomes an outline of the “Needs” of our parish to accomplish the goals set forth in our Vision for the Future. The first step indeed was to develop a “Needs” list through a “Master Planning Process.” 6

PowerPoint Presentation:

7 What goes into a Master Plan? A Master Plan takes a comprehensive inventory of the current physical and spiritual assets of the Parish. A Master Planning Committee was formed and the task began.

PowerPoint Presentation:

8 The Committee began collecting information from every facet of the Parish. They then documented the needs and wants from the collected information prioritizing the documented information to benefit the Parish. From the collected information an action plan based on SIX major “Needs” was documented. Duties of the Committee

9 “ Vision for the Future” ACTION PLAN. We need to provide a safe and proper residence for our Clergy. The present rectory is inefficient from a heating and cooling evaluation. It is not code compliant and cannot be used for other purposes. Present structure is in need of extensive repairs. ACTION: Demolish existing rectory and renovate the Parish owned property at 2556 N. Haddow into a code compliant, energy efficient residence for our Clergy.

10 2. We need a large space to house Parish activities, celebrations, and presentations using up to date audio visual capabilities. This structure should promote programs that will attract the young, young adults, men and women’s groups plus the young at heart. ACTION: Add a Multitorium* to our campus: * A large structure or building utilized for many diverse purposes or activities by individuals of all ages.

18 4. We need to respond to the Parish’s physical inventory report. ACTION: Create a schedule to replace the almost 45 year old boiler, air handler, leaking roofs, energy leaking windows, and decaying skylights. Remove asbestos from areas of renovation and make other replacements as necessary.

PowerPoint Presentation:

19 5. We need additional meeting and classrooms to accommodate individuals presently on waiting lists to be accepted into some of our Faith Based Programs. As our programs expand more storage space will be required. ACTION: Renovate the Doherty Center and existing Hurley Center lower level creating updated meeting/classrooms, and an expanded youth room and nursery. The renovation will also develop additional storage.

24 6. We need a Prayer Chapel connected to our present worship space. ACTION: Add a structure connected to the west side of the existing church building. Separate it from the interior of the Worship Area by sliding glass doors which would allow for quiet prayer and an area for small liturgical services when closed or additional Worship space when open.

27 Implementing the Vision will require the entire congregation. It is a process that will involve many steps. As a Catholic Community we need to stay connected both in prayer and action. Before we can begin we will need the renderings on these pages to be developed into architectural drawings.

PowerPoint Presentation:

28 Once the drawings are finished they will be presented to the Archdiocese for approval. The next step, and probably the most time consuming will be presenting the Parish’s intentions and drawings to the Village of Arlington Heights for approval and permits.

PowerPoint Presentation:

29 While all this is taking place a Building Committee of qualified parishioners will be formed to advise Father Jerry on the many tangible facets of St. Edna’s Vision for the Future. Interviews for the company that will facilitate our $5,000,000 capital campaign will also take place.

PowerPoint Presentation:

30 Once these steps are in place and at acceptable levels of completion the activity will become serious . * We will replace the aging Parish Physical Equipment. * Prepare the Haddow House to become a Rectory. * Relocate our Clergy to the Haddow House. * Demolish the Existing Rectory. * Expand our Parking and rework Traffic Existing Flow. Remodel Doherty Center & Lower Level Hurley Center. Expand existing Worship Area into New Chapel.
