Disability:
Disability Teri has been paralyzed for 20 yrs Car accident w/ older sister at the age of 15 Spinal cord injury (bruised at 5 th cervical vertebra) Cracked skull (no brain damage) Was in hospital for seven months Wheel chair for life Very open, does not like people to be politically correct because of her
Challenges:
Challenges Getting out of her car in small handicapped spaces Accommodations at hotels Seating at sporting events Bathroom mirrors are too high Dealing with “weirdo’s” Going to visit people because of accessibility
Biggest Adjustment to Disability:
Biggest Adjustment to Disability The desire to do things doesn’t leave even though the ability is gone Have to plan ahead everyday and worry about different health scares Have to depend on other people to help with things that are “simple” to everyone else. Would love to take a limo and wear a fancy dress, but wheel chair won’t fit in limo.
What now?:
What now? Teri is pursuing other dreams of hers despite her disability. She recently co-authored a book “The Amazing Appleknockers ” about a Cinderella basketball team from her hometown.
