How we conducted our research:
1000 people were interviewed at four Starbucks in Beijing. Each interview consisted of only two questions: ‘How often do you eat at McDonalds?’ And ‘When was the last time you ate at McDonald’s?’
1000 people were interviewed at four Starbucks in Shanghai and asked the same two questions, about McDonald’s.
The results will surprise you.

Over 95% of interviewees at both McDonald’s and Starbucks admitted to eating/drinking at the other restaurant more than once per year. Over 50% of the Starbucks respondents admitted to eating at McDonald’s in the previous week, 20% in the previous month.
12% of the Starbucks respondents had McDonald’s food with them, or had just come from McDonald’s, at the time of the interview! 28% of the McDonald’s respondents admitted to going to Starbucks in the previous week, 13% in the previous month.
7% of the McDonald’s respondents had Starbucks coffee with them, or had just come from Starbucks, at the time of the interview.
