Participial Phrases A lesson.

Example : 

Example Gabriel hurried on his way to class, gobbling his snack as he ran.

What are participles? : 

What are participles? A “present participle” is a verb ending in -ing A “past participle” is a verb ending in –ed Other participles can be irregular, like… Frozen Beaten Blown

Positioning : 

Positioning Gobbling his snack as he ran, Gabriel hurried on his way to class. Gabriel hurried on his way to class, gobbling his snack as he ran. Gabriel, gobbling his snack, ran to his class.

Past Participial Phrases : 

Past Participial Phrases These generally start with –ed verbs, unless they have irregular spellings. They also provide extra information about nouns and pronouns. They can also be at the beginning, middle, or end of a sentence (same rules with commas)

Example : 

Example Bogged down by ridiculous amounts of homework, Johann had no time to compose.

Example :

Bogged down by ridiculous amounts of homework, Johann had no time to compose. Just like the present participle phrase, the past participle phrase adds detail to the main idea.
