It’s where I am.” Slide 4: She has resided in Ethiopia, Kenya, Canada, Eritrea and the United States. In this series she explores ,Fidel, the ancient language and symbols of Eritrea and Ethiopia. Slide 5: The lines and shapes of the letters in the paintings are lyrical and rhythmical, providing a rich visual texture for the structure and composition of her abstract paintings. These works present viewers with multiple and diverse narratives. She invites viewers to consider her art in light of their own culture and visual symbols . Slide 6: She is influenced by many modern African artists and American abstract expressionists who use text and symbols in their work. Slide 7: Admirers of nonfigurative abstract art will have more aesthetically pleasing images to add to their visual vocabulary after seeing Ms. Gebreyesus’s show.
