The Earth’s Layers :

The Earth’s Layers The earth is divided into 4 layers: crust, mantel, outer core, and inner core.

The Crust :

The Crust

There Are 2 Types :

There Are 2 Types Continental Forms the earth’s landmasses Oceanic. Found below the earth’s oceans.

The Mantle :

The Mantle The thickest layer. The mantle is a hot layer of rocks that can reach temperatures of 4,000 degrees C.

The Outer Core :

The Outer Core The outer core is a hot, liquid surrounding the inner core.

The Inner Core :

The Inner Core The inner core is solid!

The Earth’s Plates :

The Earth’s Plates The theory of plate tectonics is our current explanation to why the earth changes.

What Evidence Supports Plate Tectonics? :

What Evidence Supports Plate Tectonics? The hypothesis of continental drift.

What Is Continental Drift? :

What Is Continental Drift? In 1912, a German scientist name Alfred Wagner proposed that landmasses had drifted across the earth to their present positions.

What Evidence Was There? :

What Evidence Was There? Continents appear to fit together. Similar fossils appear on different continents. For example, the plant glossopteris lives in warm climate, but fossils found in Antarctica!

How Do Plates Move? :

How Do Plates Move? Convergent boundary Divergent boundary Transform-fault boundary

Convergent Plate Boundary :

Convergent Plate Boundary A place where two plates collide or come together.

Divergent Boundary :

Divergent Boundary A place where plates move apart. As plates separate, magma rises to fill the gap. This forms new ocean crust.

Transform-fault Boundary :

Transform-fault Boundary Places where plates move horizontally past each other. Earthquakes are very common along these boundaries. Example: san Andreas fault.

And Finally… :

And Finally… The Subduction Zone.
