Tips for Triathlete Strength Training

Slide 2:

Are you a triathlete looking for something that can give you more of an edge? You are already running, biking and swimming but can't seem to get any faster or seem stuck in a rut. Have you been working out with weights and if not why haven't you? Improve Your Swim

Slide 3:

If you are like everyone else you are short on time due to a full work schedule or going to school, but somehow you should find a couple days a week you can hit the weights. Many people think that they can add more miles to their training and that will do, but they are missing out on the great benefit of strength training.

Slide 4:

You might find that even though you cut back a little on mileage training for the bike or run to make time for the gym, you actually come out ahead from strength training. You will be strengthening those muscles that have been neglected all this time and it gives you a much improved fitness level.

Slide 5:

One of the best exercises you can do is squats. The best way is using a barbell in the gym with a rack to hold the bar. But if you have dumb bells at home you can still get a good workout. The benefit of doing squats is it will target your whole body. The predominate muscle groups used are in the thighs. Stronger thighs will help your biking and running, especially on hilly courses.

Slide 6:

For the chest the bench press is your best bet, for the back try lat pull downs. If you can manage doing pull ups, this is the best upper body exercise you can do without weights. If you can manage at least a couple days a week doing some strength training, you will see improvement in your performance, so don't miss out.

Slide 7:

Knowing all you can about swimming the triathlon will make for a more gratifying experience. The swim is typically most people’s major barrier and spending time overcoming any issues is well worth the effort. Improve Your Swim
