Bay of Fundy/Tidal Power :

Bay of Fundy/Tidal Power

What are ocean tides? :

What are ocean tides? Ocean tides are the rise and fall of sea water. Ocean tides are cause by movements and variations in the moon and the gravitational attraction of the earth, moon, and sun.

What is the Bay of Fundy? :

What is the Bay of Fundy? The Bay of Fundy is a bay at the Atlantic coast of North America that has drastic tide changes twice a day. The tide can fall or drop around 70 feet twice a day! At high tide the water can cover a four story house, but at low tide you can be walking around where the bay normally is.

Why is the Bay of Fundy a special example of ocean tides? :

Why is the Bay of Fundy a special example of ocean tides? It is a special example because each day over a hundred tons of water flow in and out of the bay of Fundy. This large amount of water flowing in and out is due to the “funnel” shape of the Bay of Fundy. This happens because as water has to go through a smaller space, it accelerates even faster.

What is tidal power as an alternative energy source? :

What is tidal power as an alternative energy source? It is a source of hydropower that turns the energy of water and tides into electricity.

What are the pros of tidal power as an alternative source of energy? :

What are the pros of tidal power as an alternative source of energy? Some pros of using tidal power are They don’t do nearly as much damage as dams do They don’t harm fish They don’t create pollution

What are the cons of using tidal power as an alternative source of energy? :

What are the cons of using tidal power as an alternative source of energy? Some problems are that it is really expensive It still has some of the same environmental problems as dams. There are also some problems with the start and stop cycle with the turbines?

Tidal Power in the Bay of Fundy :

Tidal Power in the Bay of Fundy Tidal Power in the Bay of Fundy started on October 3, 2007 Due to the high amounts of water coming into the Bay of Fundy at high velocities, the Bay of Fundy was and is a great opportunity for hydropower.
