By building accommodations such as ramps, elevators, curb cutouts the building becomes more accessible to more people. The accommodations also benefit others. What is Universal Design for Learning? : What is Universal Design for Learning? UDL is creating curriculum that is assessable to all types of students with all types of abilities and disabilities. It includes learning goals, assesments, methods, and materials that are designed to give all students an equal opportunity to learn. How might this impact student learning at our school? : How might this impact student learning at our school? Now that more special education students are being mainstreamed, it will equip the mainstream teacher to provide adequate and effective learning opportunities for these students. Our EL students will benefit from the variety. Language acquisition and comprehension will improve. Slide 5: The average student whose label is often overlooked will have their abilities and interests addressed as well. Auditory Learners Visual Learners Kinesthetic learners The three brain networks and types of learning : The three brain networks and types of learning The "how" of learning The "what" of learning The "why" of learning Recognition Strategic Affective Principle #1 Recognition Use multiple modes of presenting information : Principle #1 Recognition Use multiple modes of presenting information Provide accessibility for language, perception and comprehension Principle # 2 Strategic Allow students multiple ways to express themselves and their learning. : Principle # 2 Strategic Allow students multiple ways to express themselves and their learning. Technology allows us to let students have multiple ways to display information, such as graphic organizers, newspapers, wikis and websites. Technology allows us to engage students in multiple ways by allowing them to take part in the technology, such as SmartBoards and computer games.
