Approach:

Approach The communicative classroom Why communicative classroom? to extensively use group work in learning to complete a task successfully through communication (focus : fluency, not accuracy) 2

Previous knowledge:

Previous knowledge how to be more responsible towards mother earth – 3R (reduce, reuse, recycle) how to write processes & procedures the importance of preserving mother earth examples of the effects of global warming - extreme weather - decreased crop yields - increased deaths, diseases and injury due to extreme weather 3

Part of the task :

Part of the task (T asked Ss to bring used jar, boxes, bottles and papers in the previous lesson) T will number the Ss from 1 to 6 Ss get into their groups One representative from each group needs to draw for a project Two groups will do reduce, two groups will do reuse and the other two will do recycle 4

Cont. :

Cont. v. As a group, Ss need to decide what they want to do, and how they want to do it When they have completed their project, Ss need to draw a flow chart of their project For example if Ss choose to recycle, they can create a toy from a used egg carton. Then, Ss need to draw a flow chart on the processes in making the toy 5

Cont. :

Cont. As a group, Ss will present their project to the whole class The flow chart and the product will be displayed in the classroom at the ‘GREEN’ section 6

From TE (with love) The project was to make a tapa cloth First the Ss learned how to make dyes from natural resources ( tumeric , flowers, leaves, onion, carbon) Then they made cloth by recycling old newspaper 11

Reflection Why is it important to teach environmental literacy in Malaysia? Environmental awareness is still low Waste production is very high When is it appropriate? Afternoon classes Anytime you like  What are the plus points? Fluency practice Target both English literacy & environmental literacy Engaging language activities A variation to teacher fronted lesson 14
