Slide 1:

By: A.J. Texas Horned Lizard There are a lot of cool things about Texas Horned Lizards!

Food and Diet :

Food and Diet Texas Horned Lizards love to eat ants, but the lizards will also eat other arthropods.

Baby Season :

Baby Season A Texas horned lizard on a Texas license plate as a symbol of local culture. Head bobbing exists between male and female. It is more of a greeting then. If the female is receptive then she likes him. The mating season is between April and July.

Adapting :

Adapting This lizard lives in some hot and dry climates. It has had to adapt to survive in such conditions. One of the most amazing adaptations is its ability to collect water when it rains. Its scales are specially designed not only for protection, but also for water collection. When it rains, the lizard lowers its head and allows the water to run down its back and into its thirsty mouth. This allows it to get a lot water. This is important because of the little rain that these habitats receive. The lizard can also store a large amount of water for further use. Another interesting adaptation is its ability to shoot blood from its eyes at predators.

Home Sweet Home! :

Home Sweet Home! The Texas Horned Lizard can be found from the southern Great Plains to the far East of the Rocky Mountains. It is most likely in Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas or New Mexico. It is also found in Colorado, Arizona and deep in Mexico. It prefers a hot climate with lots of open country. It lives eating cacti, shrubs, and other plants. It lives with other cold blooded reptiles like snakes and lizards that rely on the warmth of the sun.  At the Davis Mountains of Texas, it lives with two other lizards like itself. It lives mostly in the sandy flats, while the Round Tail Lizard occupies the rocky areas and the Short Horned Lizard lives in the higher elevations. It usually lives at sea level but can live at elevations as high as 6500 feet.

Behavior :

Behavior Texas Horned Lizards are active in the daytime. They peculiarly squirt blood from their eyes. This behavior may be observed while the lizard is shedding, or when it is seriously threatened.

Social Life :

Social Life These creatures don't just interact with each other, but they also run into a human now and again. The problem is that they are only about 3 inches long and often blend into the sand or rock. This takes place between the lizard and the bottom of the unfortunate persons foot. It's not just the bite but its also the mouth full of dangerous bacteria that it inflicts.
