Welcome to the 2010-2011school year : 

Welcome to the 2010-2011school year We are so excited for the start of the new school year! My name is Mrs. Doherty and I am lucky enough to work with Mrs. Rivera. Terrific units of study planned. Podcasting Reader’s Theater Singapore math along with math program Science units A typical day in Mrs. Doherty’s little mac class Calendar Language Arts – grammar Math switch 1st to Ms. Cruz; 2nd Mrs. Doherty Snack – yogurt, water, crackers, cheese, fruit, Healthy!! Reader’s Workshop Word Work – Spelling Writer’s Workshop Lunch Read aloud Social Studies Special – P.E., music, art Science

How do we teach two grade levels? : 

How do we teach two grade levels? We teach large group lessons on all topics – decoding, comprehension, genres, retelling, etc. We teach small guided reading groups. Independent reading where each child reads their own chosen books.

Writers’ Workshop : 

Writers’ Workshop Large group lessons on genre, word choice, sentence structure, mechanics, organization…etc.

Important Reminders : 

Important Reminders It is so important that your child get to bed early. Children need 10-12 hours of sleep each night! Children need routines. Set up homework time.
