Reconstructive Surgery is a surgery for kids with cleft lip and palate problems. It has been provided by Lua Viet Youth Association, a non-profit humanitarian organization, which has collaborated with those who voluntarily offer their services such as doctors, plastic surgeons, nurses, and numerous other volunteers from America. Slide 3: The Needs In Vietnam, there are 200,000 cases of cleft lip and palate, which is estimated to have 300 additional cases each year. This congenital defect leaves a healthy child psychologically handicapped. The treatment : The treatment The total cost for each case is $150 (which includes support for the family and hospital cost). A cleft lip or palate can be successfully treated with surgery, especially if conducted soon after birth or in early childhood . Our goal is to provide 100 or more surgery cases each year. Will these children be able to smile again? : Will these children be able to smile again? Please open your heart, and give them a greatest gift of all : ‘A Lifetime of Smile’. YES, they will in someday. Lua Viet Youth Association’s Volunteers : Lua Viet Youth Association’s Volunteers Balloons were given to each child while in waiting room. Each child was examined before the surgical operation. Lua Viet Youth Association’s Volunteers : Lua Viet Youth Association’s Volunteers Due to the limited number of staffs, the surgeon doctors had go to the waiting room, carried the child into the operating room by themselves. Dr. Lê Nh?t (Irvince, CA) Dr. Qu?nh Ch?n(Irvince, CA) Lua Viet Youth Association’s Volunteers : Lua Viet Youth Association’s Volunteers Each surgery took up to three hours; Everyone worked hard despite the hot weather without air conditioning. Lua Viet Youth Association’s Volunteers : Lua Viet Youth Association’s Volunteers All post surgery cares are also provided with ‘LOVE’. Slide 10: After a long day of surgery, the volunteer staffs are still smiling joyfully because they know that they have changed these less fortunate kids’ life.
