Water analysis of river Krka : 

Water analysis of river Krka Done in Novo mesto on the 6th May 2010 by these students (12-14 years): Hana, Nuša, Živa, Jores, Jan, Vito. We took samples in Irča vas and at Brod.

Surrounding areas The banks around river Krka are green and clean. Pictures taken in Irča vas ( a village 500 metres from our school).

Taking and researching the samples It was difficult to collect the samples. We had to wear rubber boots.

Ph value of water : 

Ph value of water We measured it with the help of Ph slips that we dipped into the water samples. Value: 7 – neutral Measuring the Ph value of water.

Smell of water : 

Smell of water Slightly detectable. Hana didn’t detect any specific smell.

Flora :

Plants : 

Plants We didn’t detect many plants in the water because the water is still cold and plants only started to grow. We noticed HIPPURIS VULGARIS, ELODEA CANADENSIS, CAREX SP., ALISMA PLANTAGO – AQUATICA, CALTHA PALUSTRIS, RANUNCULUS SP., FONTINALIS ANTIPYRETICA. None of these plants were blooming. The plants will be better developped next month.

Animals in the river Krka : 

Animals in the river Krka Water was very hazy that is why young fish and tadpoles are weakly visible. Pond skaters

Classroom work : 

Classroom work We continued our analysis in the biology classroom. We could only see amphipods with the help of stereo magnifying glass.

Analysis in classrooms . Water was hazy when taking the samples that is why we took them back to school. We waited for two hours, for water to clarify. We removed the needless water. We observed organisms in water with the help of magnifying glass and stereo magnifying glass. We found some amphiods, few smaller water snails, some trichoptera, bit of plecoptera, mynas of water spiders. Based on this we determined that water was moderately polluted. We found names of animals and plants with the help of various keys.
